Down for the Count
The Skatastrophes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
(She said don't go) She said she didn't want to let me go just yet.
(That's just too bad) Well that's too bad, cause I'm already gone
(She hoped I'd know) She said she didn't want to let me know just yet.
(That's just too bad) Well it's too bad, cause I'm already gone.
Well, I remember that night, just messing around. Don't stop cause I hope you're taking this all down. Just let it all go and we'll take it from there - it doesn't seem like it but somewhere inside I still care. And this might come to you as a surprise, I never believed any of your lies. Just give it up because you can't win this time.
The Skatastrophes' song Down for the Count is about a person who has been reckless in their behavior and is now dealing with the consequences of their actions. The lyrics describe how this person had a chance to make things right, but instead chose to complain about their situation. The singer suggests that this individual is lying to themselves and others about their state of mind, and that their actions have caused them to lose the trust of those around them. The chorus of the song reinforces the idea that it's too late for this person to make amends and that they have lost their chance to maintain a relationship with the singer.
The second verse of the song paints a picture of a night spent with this person where they were just messing around. The singer implies that this person's behavior has caused them to distance themselves emotionally, despite still caring on some level. However, the singer also reveals that they never believed any of the person's lies, and that the person should give up trying to win them back.
Overall, the lyrics of Down for the Count suggest that this person's behavior has caused them to lose the trust and respect of those around them. They are now facing the consequences of their actions and must deal with the fact that they have lost a meaningful relationship with the singer.
Line by Line Meaning
Well, there was a time when you got out of line.
At one point, you behaved inappropriately.
Could have put it all behind, but instead you went to whine about the time that you were blind, you couldn't see, lost your mind, you couldn't think...
Instead of moving forward, you chose to complain about the past and how you were unable to think clearly.
...but everybody knows it's just a lie.
Your complaints are not truthful and everyone is aware of this.
And you try to pretend that you were fine at the end of the night you didn't let pass by.
You attempt to appear as if everything is fine, despite not fully experiencing the night before.
Otherwise, you might have been a friend of mine.
If you had handled the situation differently, we could have been friends.
(She said don't go) She said she didn't want to let me go just yet.
Someone expressed their reluctance for me to leave.
(That's just too bad) Well that's too bad, cause I'm already gone
Unfortunately, I have already left.
(She hoped I'd know) She said she didn't want to let me know just yet.
Someone expressed their reluctance to inform me of something just yet.
(That's just too bad) Well it's too bad, cause I'm already gone.
Unfortunately, I have already left and will not receive the information.
Well, I remember that night, just messing around.
I recall the night in question, where we were just fooling around.
Don't stop cause I hope you're taking this all down.
Keep listening, as I want you to remember what I am saying.
Just let it all go and we'll take it from there - it doesn't seem like it but somewhere inside I still care.
If we move forward and let go of the past, there is potential for us to repair our relationship because I still care about it on some level.
And this might come to you as a surprise, I never believed any of your lies.
You may be surprised to know that I never trusted any of the falsehoods you told me.
Just give it up because you can't win this time.
It is pointless to continue your efforts, because you will not be successful this time around.
