The Situation
The Skatastrophes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Between how it is and how it should have been
And you say life sucks
But that's the way it is, so just get over it
Well I don't wanna be a loser but now it seems there's nowhere left for me to go
There's only one thing I can do
This situation's getting old
I can't remember what I said
I would give life another try
But I'd rather just ignore everything
And anyone who's ever said a word to me
Is gonna have to deal with this
And its too late for ignorant excuses
And I'm so far gone
That I know I'm never coming back again
You say you're stuck
Between reality
And long-lost broken dreams
And you say you live
On alcohol and burnt-out self esteem
Well I don't wanna be a loser but now it seems there's nowhere left for me to go
There's only one thing I can do
And with this day to day
There's gotta be another way
I cant just sit here getting by
But I've got nothing left to try
In this song, The Skatastrophes are singing about feeling stuck and hopeless in life. The first verse talks about someone feeling like life sucks and that they should just get over it. The singer, however, feels like there's nowhere left for them to go and that they don't want to be a "loser." They feel like the situation is getting old and it's a waste of time. They don't remember what they said they would do to give life another try, but they do know that they'd rather ignore everything and everyone.
The chorus repeats the idea that the situation is getting old and that the singer doesn't want to try to give life another chance. They're so far gone that they know they're never coming back again. The second verse talks about feeling stuck between reality and long-lost dreams, living on alcohol and burnt-out self-esteem. The singer again feels like there's nowhere left to go and that there's got to be another way. They can't just sit there getting by, but they feel like they've got nothing left to try.
Overall, the song expresses feelings of hopelessness and being stuck in a situation that seems impossible to get out of. However, it also expresses a desire to find another way and to not be defeated by life.
