In the corner of every thing
Outside of every thrilling moment
Outside of every drunken night
But now that weeks and days have passed
And still no one to blame
I know that modern love walk some by
So just call my name
Just call my name
Just call my name
And I'll be there
So what if you give me just one chance
If you want me to dance I'll dance
I swear I'll do almost anything
If you want me to sing I'll sing
'Cause when I fall I fall so very hard
So what I'm I to do?
All I know for sure right now
I want to be inside of you
So just call my name
Just call my name
Just call my name
And I'll be there
Just call my name
Just call my name
Just call my name
And I'll be there
I know that modern love walk some by
The Slaves’ “I’ll Be There” is a love song with lyrics that speak of one’s unyielding desire and determination to be with someone. The repetitive refrain of “Just call my name, and I’ll be there” conveys the sentiment that the singer will always be available to their love interest, no matter what. The verses that precede it give the impression of someone who feels like an outsider, describing themselves as “In the corner of every party,” “Outside of every thrilling moment,” and “Outside of every drunken night.” This could indicate a sense of loneliness or feeling out of place, but the tone shifts when the singer speaks of their love interest.
The song takes on a more romantic and passionate tone when the singer talks about their feelings for the person they desire. They speak of falling hard for this individual, willing to do almost anything if it means being with them, including dancing or singing. The line “All I know for sure right now, I want to be inside of you” is a bold statement of their desire to be intimate with this person, a moment of vulnerability that solidifies their love for them. The line “But I promise you I'm just the same” could be interpreted as the singer assuring their love interest that their true self is still the same, even though they are now revealing their hidden feelings.
The final line of the song, “I know that modern love walk some by,” speaks to the idea that love in modern times can be unpredictable or difficult. However, the singer is certain of their love for this person and reiterates their availability with the repeated refrain “Just call my name, and I’ll be there.”
Overall, The Slaves’ “I’ll Be There” is a heartfelt declaration of love, with lyrics that convey a sense of longing, devotion, and desire.
