Lullaby
The Slow Show Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm out, You're in, I'm too tired of him to ring
Don't fight, think I win
Don't tell me "you love me" it's then
So close, your eyes
Cause tonight we falling
Behind
Cause tonight
We falling behind
Cause tonight
If this is England, that I see
Then all your values are foreign to me...
And your blue, blue, blue dress on the table reminds me you dear
There's no hope in leaving here
Cause tonight we die
Tonight we're falling
Behind
Cause tonight
We're falling behind
Tonight
Don't fall
Tonight
Don't say we're all your side, tonight...
Cause tonight
We're falling behind

Cause tonight
We're falling behind

Overall Meaning

The Slow Show's song "Lullaby" is a haunting track that speaks of a failed relationship and the struggle that comes with trying to move on. The lyrics suggest a sense of detachment and detachment from a current partner and the singer's inability to continue with the relationship. The opening line - "I'm out, You're in, I'm too tired of him to ring" - is a clear indication of this disconnection. The singer is no longer interested in the person they were with, and they have stopped reaching out. The line "Don't fight, think I win" suggests a sense of apathy and almost victory on the singer's part.

Further into the song, the chorus comes in, and we hear the repeated phrase "Cause tonight we're falling behind." This line creates a sense of helplessness and inevitability - that no matter what happens, the singer is destined to fall behind or fail without their former partner. The line "If this is England that I see, then all your values are foreign to me" suggests cultural differences that became too significant for the relationship to continue.

The last verse of the song appears to reveal the singers' struggle to move on - "There's no hope in leaving here/Cause tonight we die/Tonight we're falling/Behind." The line "tonight we die" is an interesting one as it suggests that not being with this person would mean the end of the world for the singer.
