Oh My Love
The Small Glories Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Darlin' can you hear me?
I'm calling your name on the mountain side
Your voice is
Soft and soothing
Haven't felt this way in a long long time

Oh my love
My dearest love
Oh my body's aching
Oh my soul is wide open
And my heart is breakin'

I've been travellin'
Over country
'Cross the oceans and the great divide
Longin' to have you with me
Find a home where we can hide

Oh my love
My dearest love
Oh my body's aching
Oh my soul is wide open
And my heart is breakin'

Here I go again
On my own again
Walkin' through the fire
The flames are gettin' higher
What is left behind?
The love that you denied
Hear me now, hear me now
Can you hear me?

Oh my love
My dearest love
Oh my body's aching
Oh my soul is wide open
And my heart is breakin'

Oh my love
My dearest love
Oh my body's aching
Oh my soul is wide open

And my heart is breakin'
Darlin' can you hear me?

Overall Meaning

The Small Glories' song "Oh My Love" is about the pain of separation and the longing to be reunited with a lost love. The singer's voice is soft and soothing as she calls out to her lover on the mountainside. She hasn't felt this way in a long time as her heart aches for her one true love. The singer feels the pain in her body, with her soul wide open and her heart breaking while she travels over country and across oceans and divides. She longs to have her lover with her, to find a home where they can hide, and to escape the pain that separation brings.

The chorus repeats the same lines repeatedly, expressing the depth of the singer's emotion. β€œOh my love, my dearest love” expresses the utter love that the singer feels for her lover. The repetition of β€œOh my body’s aching” emphasizes the physical pain that the singer feels as well. The line β€œOh my soul is wide open” suggests that the singer is emotionally vulnerable, and the final line, β€œAnd my heart is breakin’” captures the essence of the song – the pain of separation and the longing to be reunited.

Oh, Small Glories you touched a girl's heart....on August 26th, 2019 my beautiful Momma passed away... it was a beautifully sad day. After she passed I drove out to our spot in Millarville AB to say goodbye and honor her. It was a magical time and I could see and feel her and Creator at work all around us. I got in my Jeep after the lovely time and was listening to CKUA and the first words of a song came on was "GoodBye" after I had said goodbye, I drove down the road and several songs came on the were so synchronistic. I called my daughter we had a chat and then turned on the radio and this never heard before song came on....oh my ...this was her love song to me......the clouds were perfect ...the fire part was Bam and when I hear this song I see her up in the clouds flying up to heaven, her body was tired and she did not want to say goodbye but now all our Souls are wide-open. Congrats on your nominations and hope to see you personally soon....thanks for making this Love song....dunny how we all interpret things differently <3

Can't believe this song doesn't have more views. Came up on my Spotify recommended and I figured it was a big classic I'd never heard, absolutely shocked to find only 17k monthly listeners, I expected that much for this beautiful song alone. Lovely piece.

@edotoole

Great singing and music. I think it's about a girl who lost her cellphone and has to resort to calling form a mountain. Hopefully, he will hear her eventually.
