Tonight Tonight
The Smashing Pumpkins Lyrics

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change, the less you feel
Believe, believe in me, believe

That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different
Tonight, tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight, tonight

And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light

And the embers never fade in your city by the lake
The place where you were born
Believe, believe in me, believe, believe
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance
Tonight, tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight, tonight

We'll crucify the insincere tonight (tonight)
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight (tonight)
We'll find a way to offer up the night (tonight)
The indescribable moments of your life (tonight)
The impossible is possible tonight (tonight)
Believe in me as I believe in you
Tonight, tonight, tonight
Tonight, tonight

Wow, that's really awesome. I started listening to them in the early '90s when I was in middle school and Rocket was their big hit. This album didn't come out until I was in high school. I've always been a fan of theirs. Their music is memorable. I'm glad your journey turned out well where mine was more of a tragedy.

On Sept. 20, 1997, I had turned 17 and it was our junior year. Our homecoming was normally close to Thanksgiving during that time. Nine days later I had woke up one morning and was determined to ask a girl from my class to the homecoming dance. She had a great smile, pretty eyes, a great sense of humor, she was amazing and fun to be around. We had several classes together that year.

I was going to wait for our 5th-period class to ask her. It was a computer class where we sat side by side with each other. It was during the 2nd period of the day the first class we had together that I noticed she was absent. I started thinking to myself, "yup this is my luck, I actually have the courage and determination to ask her, and it happens to be the day she is absent". All through that class I wasn't even paying attention to the teacher, I was thinking to myself, "man, there's less than 2 months, I can't wait until the next time I see her" and so on.

With there being about 10 minutes left in the class, the principal makes an announcement over the pa-system. He then began to give his regrets and stated, "I regret having to announce that we have lost a fellow student this morning as she was hit by an oncoming vehicle as she was being dropped off for school", and he then proceeds to tell her name. When I heard him state her name, my heart fell through the floor, and I've never been the same since. The sad part was, before hearing the announcement we seen the commotion out front of the schoolyard with the police, ambulance, fire trucks, etc. on the highway, and wondered what was going on, but never thought anything of it.

I'm now 40 years old and every year around this time, it still hits me hard. I can still remember what she looks like, I can still remember her wittiness, and her laughter, but for the life of me I can no longer remember the sound of her voice! Even to this day, I have a hard time even trying or attempting to become close to another because of it. But this song brings me back to those days of high school before that tragedy when life was fun and full of promise...

This song takes me back to being a geeky 16 year old 90s kid, spending long summers singing with guitars around fires with good friends, beers in our hands and life stretching out forever in front of us. Billy made those nights immortal <3

25 years??? Fuck. I remember waiting to get this CD when it came out at Sam goody. Weirdly was staying in Taos New Mexico and went to the lobby of this little hotel and Billy was having an impromptu concert. Coolest most random moment ever

@Science is Hard < Sam Goody, Crazy Eddie, Tower Records, Record World ... those were the days in NYC! :)
Now it's just a gentrified online bullcrap world.

Science is Hard

You said sam goody and neurons woke up in my brain that haven't been awake for a long time, god damn, I had a flash back of probably a 2 hour outing at the mall with my friends and passing by sam goody, it all happened in a few seconds in my brain just now.

Carlos Sousa

@Bill A I still do that. Unfortunately I wish hadn't for the new Deftones. Not worth it. Sometimes bands don't age well w new music...if that makes sense
