Excited version of the 992, I put an order for one with European Delivery and I did opt in for the PDK and the aero. The color: ruby star neo. As a first configuration I'm at 148K but I think I will be modifying things before delivery in 2024 (European Delivery is not available until 2024 for the T).

Interesting comment. I’ve got a manual 997 Carrera and this is really the only car from the 992 range that I would really consider moving into. However the 992 is just too big for me now. One parked next to my 997 a while back and it genuinely looked double the size!

I love the statement of “should you elect to buy one”…do YouTubers have ZERO idea of the current state of things? This car is not something you can walk into a dealership and say, “I’ll have one of those!”, no, you have to get on a “list”, hope your dealership gets more than ONE and then find enough money to pay for the ADM they are going to charge on a BASE!! Having owned a 991.1 S and a 718 Spyder (both with almost identical MSRPs), I would always direct those seeking a "driver's Porsche" to the mid-engined cars (unless you need 4 seatbelts).

@Aaron Hart That's exactly what I did, some of the must haves were sport exhaust, bose audio, and sport chrono. Mine is pretty basic in comparison with most. It's still so much fun to drive and faster than most cars on the road, I think that 379hp is underrated. It feels like a 420+hp car, next mod is going to be the tune that puts you close to 500hp and that's more than plenty.

Harry’s Garage and Carwow both have good videos of base Carreras but I too would like to get TST’s take on them, especially because you can get them with no ADM now whereas Carrera T’s will likely be going for 15-20k ADM through 2023.

Zack - in terms of feeling lateral load, I believe that's actually from the rear steering. I have a 992 and the rear steer changes how the front loads up on high speed corners, which is communicated through the wheel. It threw me off at first.

If you a low speed corner where rear wheels are going opposite direction, then you really feel the lateral load.

The Carrera T is a fantastic car in every way... except for the fact that you can only get a black interior. I know it's minor, but I really wish you could spec like a tan or red on the interior like you can in the S and even the GTS

At no point in this video did these fellas get excited driving this car. It felt like a sales pitch from the accounting department. I think one ought to look at a S or GTS to ensure there is enough power involved to be grinning when you’re driving your sports car.

I'm a fan of the modern 911 but frankly they have priced themselves out of the range of the majority of buyers. I was looking at a used 2021 911 Carrera 4 (a necessity for Canada winters) and they sell for roughly $190,000 used... That's a ridiculous sum for a 379HP sports car. For that kind of money I could buy a new R8 or if I wanted just a toy, used McLaren, Aston Martin Vantage (new), a new RS7, etc. At one point Porsche were an expensive but attainable sports car. Now they are pricing themselves in the range of used Lamborghini and Ferrari. The 911 really should be competing against the best of BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc except they are double the price of the best of those brands.

I guess as long as people are willing to pay ridiculous over sticker prices for them and excessive amounts for used models, Porsche simply doesn't need to adjust but the days of many Porsches on the road and being within a reasonable price range are long gone.

This car is 25k more than my 991.2 T and I have T Interior, FBs, RAS, and PCCBs... That's what 4 years and a whole bunch of turmoil does to the car market. I also think the 991.2s sound a little better (maybe just the mikes). Thanks for the review guys! Drive safe.

Having been alive when the "Original T" was being sold -- it was not intended as a homologation special with which to go touring car racing. That is an apocryphal story. The original T was a "stripper", de-featured car which was intended to expand Porsche's market share in a slightly more price sensitive portion of the market. The original 901 morphed into the 911E. In the meantime the 911S had been created as the 911 with something extra and a higher engine tune. From there they decided to fill in the gap between the 911E and the 912 with a 911 that was outfitted with a 911 engine, but trimmed like a 912. This was the 911T. The engine tune put the car pretty much half way between the 912 and the 911E in performance.
When Porsche went racing seriously in the 911 starting in the late 60's, they looked at the rules and decided to start with the lightest 911 in the line-up (the T) since this was what the homologation regulations would use as a starting point for the car's weight.
But the T came along for marketing reasons before the homologation shenanigans began.

The front brakes are typically bigger than the rear because of weight transferring to the front wheels under braking. Look at pictures of a GT3 with the rotors glowing red hot. You will notice the front is always hotter. That is because even in a rear engined car the weight transfers to the front. Porsche uses a variety of methods to control that weight transfer. Engine placement is a tiny part of the picture.

NA HIGH RPM

To expand on your first sentence, it's because the back end will lock up before the front end (as you mentioned, weight transfer) and lightens the back end. If brakes were all same size, back would always lock first in most cars. That's why rear breaking force has to be less.

Idk about this gen T being the value leader it once was. 116,600 base for the T and 123,000 base for the S to use Porsche official numbers means you are only saving ~5k but losing out on over 50 hp in exchange for a few optional extras, which are available on the S for similar dough.

Both are available with manuals so I'd reckon most enthusiasts will be able to spec a nice S with the bare essential options and have a bit more car to play with for the same money as most T transactions.
I'm sure the T is only a flash tune away from 50 hp but an S with PASM and Sport Chrono ticked would probably be the way I'd go. A $130k S is likely a better buy than a $130k T if it's the only car you really use. Sound deadening is not something you'll really be interested in trading for a couple pounds saved.

Who wouldn't get the rear seats in a car that's set up for 4 seats? Even if they are unusable, there is still a spot integrated for them whether you choose to get them or not.

I own/owned multiple two seaters and love them. But they were all designed to be two seaters.

"The original T was homologated to go racing" no it wasn't, perhaps you're thinking of the R which was; the T was the bottom of the 911 model range with the least tuned engine and a relatively stripped out interior, and it was very well liked at the time and long after because it was a lot cheaper than the luxurious L (later E) or the high-strung S and it had a reputation of being more attainable, more usable, "everything you need and nothing you don't" kinda thing. Porsche marketing turned T into a similar but different thing in the 991, which is a cool pivot; the sport-tuned Carrera that focuses on less frills and more engagement.

Not to take away from this car's greatness, but don't you guys think the Lotus Emira is the better car? The Emira is more powerful with 400HP, lower priced at 76K than 116K, has the reliable Toyota V6, and is about 200lbs lighter. I have a 991.2 Carrera T and it’s just so perfect for me (not having the money for the GTS, I got the T with all the performance options I wanted). Here were I live many went on to a stg 2 tune and with the same Cup 2 tires, the Carrera T’s are nipping the heels of the fastests 991 and 991.2 GT3’s on our local F1 circuit at the frequent track days we have. That translates to only 1 or 1.5 seconds in favor of the GT3, always splitting their ranks with one or two lagging behind the fastests Carreras T. In fact, with that stg 2 tune the last gen Carrera T can get way more hp and tq than the stock Carrera GTS. Oh! That said, the 718 GT4 we see here can’t keep up with those tuned Carrera T’s. But I expect the new 718 GT4 RS will change that if you have the money and the almost impossible allocation to get it.

But let me explain that crazy thought for you: let’s say you want a 911 to attend the Porsche track days. But a good 991.2 GT3 coasts about U$ 300k and a good Carrera T only U$ 100k. You know that with less than U$ 3k in mods you will give those GT3 a good run for their money. That makes any sense for you? Of course if you are a stranger to the track days and the only thing you know about driving at the track is from watching videos and reading tech specs you would find no logic at all in my comment.

I think you guys left out the fact that you could get all the options that the T has like lightweight glass + RAS but with more HP and bigger brakes in the S. I think the S seems like a better buy.

@shehatezme very understandable. Pointing out the differences does not mean they should be important to everyone. You can’t go wrong with either one of them. Very comfortable but real sportscars with outstanding chassis. To my opinion some people speccing the T would be better of getting the S. So that just makes sense to me.

@Ilija Petkovski For my use, I need the backseat for the kids so that option would not be something I consider. In the US, you get the sports chrono with the Manual Sports Package. I agree that the lighter battery, less sound deadening, and special interior color trims are things that I can't get on the S. However. I don't know if those things are that important to me at tbh. I value the extra HP and bigger brakes on the S more than the other things listed. I think I will spec an S.

You cannot get the S without rear seats. You cannot get the agath grey elements that are so special on the T. Also on the engine compartment they are agath grey. On normal 911 you can only get them in black or color of the car. You cannot get the lighter battery on the S and lesser sound isolation. Also the movable wing has a different degree on the T. Finally you cannot get the sports chrono package on the S with the manual. Which makes the T manual really something “special”. And you save €10k. Better brakes are not really necessary tbh. More power could be a point, but only with the PDK that’s a no brainer.

You guys did not mention that many Porsche dealers are asking over MSRP for this car, which really makes it not a great value, in my opinion. A great car but I agree, not as special as the last one and not the value it was as a 991. I had a 2019 T and got it at a nice discount, which made it even better. This is a car I would pass on even though I too like what it is. By the way, that Python green is amazing!

@Lwdn33 Do you buy a McLaren Artura knowing you can walk in and buy one but lose money as you can't buy parts outside of the dealer network and they won't trade it in or buy a 296 at 350k? Porsche is not going to raise the price because then the demand would drop. By having the thick side of half a mil over 3 years they are making you think you are buying a $116,000 car. What I love is that everyone asks for Porsche and Financial advice on the next big thing on the Smoking Tire

@Fraser Wright This whole practice is really killing off potential buyers and putting a bad taste in the mouth as a whole regarding the brand. I'm finally at a point where I can realistically go in on one of these, but with the way they're treating new clients, it's not worth it. Ferrari did the same thing, but at least they're Ferrari - which Porsche is not.

Fact of the matter is the brand is already a little diluted because every shopping mall is filled with Macan's, so it's not like you're really going for exclusivity here.

The current queue for a 911T or RS in the UK requires over £400,000 spent on OTHER Porsche models over the past 2 years. The more you have spent the higher up the ladder you go and ability to get paint to sample etc. So while you don't lose money on trading it in you are spending 200,000 a year or more on other Porsches to stay in the game. OK if you want nothing else and can out spend the others.

If the GT4's weren't so scarce, the market for this car wouldn't exist - if you want a track-focused Porsche for ~$125,000, get a GT4, and if you just want the prestige of the 911, get a base 911.

How does this compare to a Cayman GTS4.0? Obviously it makes power in a different way, but the performance specs are similar. On paper, the Cayman GTS4.0 seems like a bargain in comparison to the 911 T.
