I came up with a concept that works like a "False Friend" called a "Yam".
One of the draft calls I did, the caller talks about a "friend" that everyone keeps telling him is behaving odd but he doesn't know what they are talking about. That his "friend" has been living with him for weeks and they've know each other since pre-school. He does mention that they were listening out for a noise in the wall together.

Now, a Yam is a human creature that simply seems like a human, only lonely people are targeted, they also see it as a person more friendly and approachable, believe that it's their friend and has been for a long time. Despite not talking much, the Yams target constantly have conversations with this "friend" and only refers to the Yam as their "friend" and will never use a name or any other descriptor. People outside of the victims personal life may not notice anything, but anyone somewhat close to the target by relationship will notice the odd behaviours and not know anything of this "friend". But the Yam will refuse to elaborate, having the target always making up reasons and excuses for them, being extremely defensive. The Yam will live with the target, always following, always watching, never sleeping, but the target just won't realise.

The Yam will drive its target to do reckless things till death, mostly including trying to kill them indirectly through supernatural means.

Might as well tell you how to get rid of it, because it was an in Joke with friends back in College.
How you get rid of the Yam is to simply get the target to directly refer to it by its name, "Yam". They can simply ask, "Is your name Yam?" and it'd work. Once the Yam hears and knows the target address they are Yam they will simply walk away and disappear. Very anti-climatically. "Haha, very funny, you tell the best jokes... Yam." and then the Yam will literally drop whatever it was doing and go away leaving the target confused.

In this first call, failing it just has the caller go, "I knew it, you are all just jealous that I finally found a friend that understands me, that wants to talk to me. I don't need you, or them."

Then the next Yam call has a red herring,
The caller talks of noises from a closet, description sounding like a Kobold, which is correct, except. When he explains it, he says thing like, "Me and my friend noticed it the other week..." "My friend is scared, suggests we prepare to fight it, scare it off before it attacks us. I thought I'd call first."

Failing this one by picking anything but "Yam" will cause the next call to be a different voice,
"Hello there, the person you talked to can't get to the phone so I just wanted to say, thank you on his behalf. Thank you... friend. (Call ends)"

I think it would be cool if there were secret "wrong" answers if you tell someone the incorrect thing but the instructions on how to prevent it were similar enough to where they still survived.
For example, whistling fungi? Tell them to get out of the house by saying "Boggart" instead.

Hanks, i think, is the funniest but most important one to fail for a beginner. It immediately tells the player that some fails will have the caller being injured and / or worse. Your fate is literally in their hands, and they can't go on with some of these issues without your help. Also, May calling just to cry for her son and then immediately hang up was oddly comedic

I’m frankly surprised one creature that is literally never once used or mentioned in the story are the Kobolds. Given the fact they mimic wounded dogs and are said to be HIGHLY territorial, there was way more than enough to make a call with them.
Imagine this; a caller first starts by saying their dog disappeared but they still hear whimpering from their basement, and while they were about to go down and check, they heard something weird about the whimper and immediately went back upstairs. Giving the wrong answer gives a consequence call where the caller goes down in a panic because the whimpering stopped and they were worried their “dog” was dead, only for the kobold to surprise attack the caller from behind before they even get out a scream, the line goes dead while the caller screams “Get off me!” before they scream and the tearing of flesh is heard. Implying the kobold pounced and got them to the ground before actually starting to attack. Amplifying the horror by implying that Kobolds are unlike most creatures, alarmingly smart, ie. the owner was set off by the kobold’s whimpering, so it stopped whimpering to lure them in. Then had the sense to surprise them and get them to the ground before starting to tear into the caller.
Genuinely think there was wasted potential that they’re never once needed in the story.

I think I generally accepted that complaint callers were the same person until Wanda called back.

After Whiskers was taken, I figured either "corporate" killed her or her house collapsed from structural damage. Plus it seemed to take a while for her to call back.

In a better universe we'd already be playing HSH2, where you play one of hte "Removal Teams". Sort of an SCP/BPRD/MiB thing, but with this game's vision of a world choked by superstitious and household myth. One imagines that this change has to be relatively recent- not so new that (some?) authorities and caregivers are ignorant. The CDC seems to be reacting violently to the Fae Flu, understandably. But it can't be a generation old because there's no school classes teaching you stuff. That should be in FIRST GRADE man. Maths and Grammar don't mean JACK if an old microwave sucks you in and slowly, slowly kills you as you pound silently on the glass. Also, sadly this will massively multiply the trash culture, with people aggressively and impulsively cleaning out their houses. Once this knowledge becomes universal, we're going to see a lot of "anti-hoarders", people who fling any potential hobb-bait out into the street. Though a faint slver lining, maybe a few regular hoarders will be cured when the fae start inundating their home in used syringes.

The point of those entries are to act as red herrings to try and throw off the player. For example, the Fae Feast caller describes a rotten egg scent coming from the kitchen, which is part of the Trash Gnome's entry and may trick the player into choosing the wrong one

I imagine it’s something mystical, because of how you shouldn’t stick around and find out. I also think because other structure damage problems can be resolved and normally not simply ran away from, it was more.
Leaving the location might be to avoid the noise. Like it’s a countdown noise to something bigger. Like with how you shouldn’t kill moles.

I hope they make another one of this, with more explorations of what outcomes happen, even if it is a run that randomly selects 5 calls a day out of call out of 100+ different ones ordered by difficulty and you just played it enough to know all of them.
