The Only Ones
The Sounds Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Inside and outside, on which side are you?
One door and only one and yet its sides are two.
I’m on the inside. On which side are you?
One door and only one and yet its sides are two.
Inside and outside, on which side are you?
One door and only one and yet its sides are two.
The lyrics to The Sounds's song "The Only Ones" pose a philosophical question about perspective and duality. The first verse, "One door and only one and yet its sides are two. Inside and outside, on which side are you?" speaks to the idea that there are two sides to everything - even something seemingly as simple as a door. It also highlights that our position relative to that object or situation can determine our perspective of it. The repetition of the verse emphasizes the importance of the question.
The second verse, "I'm on the inside. On which side are you?" adds a layer of personal reflection to the idea of duality. The singer positions themselves on the inside of the door, but doesn't make any assumptions about the listener's position. Perhaps the repetition of the first verse and the inclusion of this specific question is meant to elicit introspection from the listener about their own perspective and position in life.
Overall, "The Only Ones" is a thought-provoking song that uses a simple metaphor to convey a deeper philosophical question about duality and perspective.
