Members of the group were Vernon Nesbeth, Frank Mannah, and brothers Harold (Harry) and Allan Wilmot. The group's biggest commercial hit, and its only appearance in the UK Singles Chart, was their 1957 cover version of "Alone", which sold more than one million copies. The song the group is most identified with is "I am a Mole and I Live in a Hole" (also known as "Mole", "The Mole" and "The Mole in a Hole"). The title line from the song was spoken by the group's bass voice Harry Wilmot (father of Gary Wilmot).

My kid brother once came to the door with Mum when he was little, saw lyr butcher Sammy Mole and said "I am a mole and I live in a hole" like the song! Mum was mortified

This is the first childhood memory i have, must have been 1958 as i remember this being on the radio a lot.

I loved this track, and my gran used to play it for me on the old gramophone (something the size of a chest freezer) located in the back room due to its size. It was mono, and the speaker was in the living room, so I'd run back to hear it! I sill have the old 45 - was left to me 40 years ago now.
