BAD
The Spinners Lyrics

(Ah...yeah)
Hmm...hmm

Since you've been gone my voice sounds like thunder
My friends say I seem like a cloudy day (Like a cloudy day, yeah)
All I need is a stroke of lightnin' to make my frame a little more frightenin'
And I'll be bad, bad weather till you come home, oh
I'm gonna be bad weather
Till you come home, oh, yes, I will, baby
I'm gonna be thunder and lightnin'
Till you come home, oh, yeah

Now my little room reminds me of London town
When the evening sun goes down
Honey, it's cold and misty, and oh, so foggy
And it's hard to find my way around

And if I should stumble upon something that belongs to you
I become confused inside and I don't know what to do

I'm gonna be bad weather, oh, baby
Till you come home, baby, oh, yes, I will
I'm gonna be misty morning, oh, yeah
Till you come home, and, oh, yeah, baby

There's a tornado inside of me
Adding to all of my misery
Girl, are you tryin' to destroy me
If so, let me know to prepare for much more

Of this bad weather
Till you come home, oh, yeah, baby
It's gonna be thunder and lightin'
Till you come home, yeah, yeah

It's gonna be, oh, baby
Till you get here, baby

Oh, it's gonna be bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad weather
Till you come home, baby

Overall Meaning

The Spinners' song "Bad Weather" is a love ballad about a person who is struggling to cope with the absence of their significant other. The first verse begins by describing how the singer's voice has become loud and harsh, like thunder, since their partner has gone away. Their friends have noticed that the singer's mood is like a cloudy day. The singer longs for their partner to come home so that they can feel like themselves again. The chorus emphasizes the point that the singer will be bad weather until their partner returns, acting like thunder and lightning until that time.

The second verse shifts the focus to the singer's physical surroundings. The singer's room is described as cold, misty, and foggy, reminiscent of London town. The singer feels lost in this atmosphere, struggling to find their way around. If they come across something that belongs to their partner they become even more confused. The chorus repeats the idea that the singer will be bad weather until their partner comes home.

The bridge of the song acknowledges the effect that the singer's partner has on them. The singer compares their feelings to a tornado, adding to all of their misery. The singer questions whether their partner is trying to destroy them, but asks that they be warned if that is the case so that they can be prepared for the bad weather to continue until their partner finally returns.

Overall, "Bad Weather" is a soulful plea from one lover to another to return to their arms and end the storm that has taken over their life.
