The story actually begins deep in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, where band member Nick Krill was rummaging through the personal effects of his late grandfather, the guitar player Roy Spinto. For years, Roy had penned lyrics on the inside of Cracker Jack boxes, and in one simple juxtaposition of time and fate, Nick found the lyrics that would inspire the creation of the Spinto Band. And they hit the ground running. The energy was undeniable, and it wasn't long before Jon Eaton, Thomas Hughes, Nick Krill, Joe Hobson, Sam Hughes, Jeff Hobson and Albert Birney (who has since left the band to pursue the visual arts) found themselves with a massive musical proliferation at hand.
Eight years and seven self-released albums later, the Spinto Band is in the prime vein of musical prowess. Utilizing an indie-pop sensibility that brings to mind the Flaming Lips and Pavement, their songs can send you careening into the heights of lysergic bliss or provide the catchiest vibes to shake your tail feather to. Either way, this six-piece outfit has the goods to deliver us all from the doldrums of banality.
Currently teamed up with Nashville producing duo, Robin Eaton and Lij (of Alex the Great recording studios), and preparing a May release through Bar-None Records, the band's sound exudes a finesse that belies their youth (their ages range from 20-25). With rich, textured guitars, and multiple-part vocal harmonies, the Spinto Band's repertoire is a maelstrom of indie perfection. It's quirky, energetic, radiant, and aptly engaging.
The Spinto Band has performed with such acts as the Trachtenberg Family Slideshow Players, and Of Montreal. It's an inevitable transgression beyond the words on this page; the Spinto Band excels. Thank you, Roy.

You are the one I see, you are the one that comes in my dreams,
Travel into the stars this is our last chance to be immortal,
The grass it grows so green,
Lets burn machines and walk in shadows
Where is your dying heart,
Where is the love that you once showed me,
Now that your on your feet,
Can we retreat and find that green grass,
So thick it sucks you in
The clorophyll cushion will be our home now,
[Bridge]
Its my tractor yeah
Gonna ride, gonna ride, gonna ride it on
Gonna ride, gonna ride 'till the break of dawn
Cut the grass and mow the lawn
Now is the time to act, this is the one way back to our love,
You are the one I see, you are the one that comes in my dreams,
Travel into the stars, this is our last chance to be immortal,
The grass it grows so green,
Lets burn machines and walk in shadows,
Its my tractor yeah
Gonna ride, gonna ride, gonna ride it on,
Gonna ride, gonna ride till the break of dawn,
Cut the grass and mow the lawn,
Its my tractor, Yeah
The Spinto Band's song "Tractor" can be interpreted in a variety of ways but at its core, it seems to be about rekindling lost love. The opening lyrics, "Now is the time to act, this is the one way back to our love," suggest a sense of urgency and the need to take action before it's too late. The singer is addressing their partner, stating that they are the one they see and dream of. The line "travel into the stars, this is our last chance to be immortal" signifies a desire for their love to transcend human limitations and be everlasting.
The next set of lyrics address the partner's change of heart and the loss of love that was once shared. The line "when we forgot to breathe, we were one there was no middle" suggests that at one point, they were inseparable and intimately connected. The singer wonders if they can retreat and find the green grass again, the grass being a metaphor for the foundation of their love. The bridge, "It's my tractor yeah...cut the grass and mow the lawn" seems to reinforce the metaphor of taking care of their love and nurturing it, cut the grass representing eliminating any negative influences and mowing the lawn being a "chore" that's necessary for their love to thrive. The repetition of the line "it's my tractor" adds a sense of ownership, determination, and hard work to the metaphor.
Overall, "Tractor" is lyrically poetic and open to interpretation. It is likely that the song will resonate with anyone who has experienced a lost connection with someone they love and urges them to take action to reignite it.
