something intangible i can’t put my finger on with this one. have listened on and off (more on) the last few years, and has become an all time favourite record up there with the juggernauts. can’t explain it. just love it so much. thank you anthony

@lesgore54

Thanks again for posting this. It's so great to hear the records that have been talked about for years but are rarely heard. I'm sure the spoken portion was Mr. Bono's idea. It starts out better than it ends, no?

@JJMMWGDuPree

Given that Sonny co-wrote the song, I'd say you're in with a pretty high chance of being right! I prefer the ending to the opening though...
I'd love to edit the chat out of the middle. Might even try it one day.

@desertfox3742

This was played on the radio (KFWB) but wasn't a big hit. These guys used to play in various So Cal clubs & i remember hearing them sing this song at the Glendale Ice house. Memories.

Interesting. Sounds like they are caught between two worlds of music, the early 60's like 61 and 1964. "Dirty Water," is still pretty cool.

@AnthonyReichardt

The style and sound of 'Don't Say Goodbye' is inching towards 'Dirty Water'.....πŸ˜‰

On this day in 1965 {March 20th} the Standells performed "The Boy Next Door" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
Six weeks earlier on January 31st the song peaked at #102 on Billboard's Bubbling Under the Top 100 chart...
Between April 1966 and November 1967 the Los Angeles-area band had four records on Billboard's Top 100 chart; "Dirty Water" {#11 in 1966}, "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" {#43 in 1966}, "Why Pick On Me" {#54 in 1966}, and "Can't Help But Love You" {#78 in 1967}...
