Falling for You
The Starting Line Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This drowing sorrow is shaking me
more than it ever has before
The road signs reading bitter end
leave me suspect of a crime

The city air chokes me today
more than it ever has before
I'm nervous to feel deserved
by these street signs anymore

Are you
going to
be waiting up when I get home
we'll stay up all night
getting drunk and watching sunsets on our porch

I'm falling for you
I'm falling for you
I fell for you

These empty feelings question me
of who I think I've become
My mind is ticking life away
asking if you are the one

Are you
going to
be waiting up when I get home
we'll stay up all night
getting drunk and watching sunsets on our porch

I'm falling for you
I'm falling for you
I fell for you

I'm falling for you
I'm falling for you
I fell for you

I'm dying to explain my heart
to you now
I'm dying to explain my heart
to you now
there's so much on my mind it's tearing me apart
there's so much on my mind it's tearing me apart

I'm falling for you
I'm falling for you
I fell for you

I'm falling for you

I'm falling for you
I fell for you

Overall Meaning

The Starting Line's "Falling for You" portrays emotions of uncertainty and confusion towards a romantic interest. The first verse of the song deals with the singer drowning in unexplainable sorrow, which seems to be intensified by the surroundings of the city air. The road signs, in particular, lead to a "bitter end," causing the singer to feel like a suspect of a crime. It highlights that the singer is already feeling lost and guilty even before he reaches his destination.

The lyrics further reflect the singer's doubt and fear of his feelings for the person he is addressing. The chorus is a confession of emotion, as the singer falls for the person slowly and steadily. The thought of having someone waiting for him at home is reassuring, and he finds comfort in the idea of someone being there for him. The singer's anxiety is again expressed through the lyrics "I'm nervous to feel deserved by these street signs anymore," indicating that he is uncertain whether the feeling he has is genuine or fleeting.

The second verse deals with further confusion and questions about these romantic feelings. The singer's mind is ticking life away, asking whether this person is the one for him while simultaneously contemplating whether he has changed as a person. The singer is also eager to explain his heart to the person and share his innermost thoughts but is feared to do so. The song portrays the singer's vulnerability as he exposes his emotions and questions his feelings.

Oh my god!! I remember 15 or 16 years ago downloading this song several times and being tricked over and over again cause it wasn't the starting line. I always thought it was a good song though but I never knew who the hell played it. God damn it's so nostalgic.,

Was looking up "Falling for You" by the Starting Line on the iTunes Store and couldn't find it for a reason. This is why I download legit, legal music, not shit from random websites with misnamed song information. Thanks for putting the right artist in your description though...yes some of us bother to read that.
