They began as The Buckeyes around 1955 with members Bruce Robinson and Ronnie Collins, and released two singles on the Cincinnati label Deluxe Records in 1957. In 1959 the group added Leroy Swearingen and released their first single as The Stereos, "A Love for Only You"; it flopped, and Swearingen left the group to be replaced by Nathaniel Hicks.[1] Swearingen, however, wrote the song "I Really Love You", which became their biggest hit, peaking at #15 on the U.S. Black Singles chart and #29 on the Billboard Hot 100.[2] They continued releasing singles up until 1968, none of which came close to reaching the success of "I Really Love You".
George Harrison covered "I Really Love You" for his 1982 album Gone Troppo.

Built in my mind
Dreaming of you and me
Flying through a yellow sky
Maybe i´m not good enough
Maybe what you say is true
Babe i can´t understand
If i could steal the moon and the stars
I would give'em all to you
I wish i could fly and shine like a star
But babe that´s all i am
Maybe i´m not good enough
Maybe what you say is true
Babe i can´t understand
How could i believe in love again
Maybe i´m not good enough
Maybe what you say is true
Babe i can´t understand
How could i believe in love again
I know there are nights when you cry
I know you still remember our our love
You know my feelings were true
And i know there will be no one like you
Yeah i know there will be no one like you
I know there will be no one like you
Flying through a yellow sky
Flying through a yellow sky
Flying through a yellow sky
Flying through a yellow sky
In "Sweetpeas In Love," The Stereos explore the pains of unrequited love and the difficulty of moving on. The singer describes a secret place in his mind where he dreams of flying through a yellow sky with his love interest. However, he doubts himself and wonders whether he is good enough for her. He acknowledges that she may have been right to reject him and struggles to believe in love again.
The repeated line "Maybe I'm not good enough, maybe what you say is true" highlights the singer's insecurity and self-doubt. He wishes he could offer her the world, but understands he is only human and cannot meet these expectations. Despite this, he still holds onto the hope that maybe they could be together again someday.
The last verse reveals that even though their relationship ended, the singer still holds a special place in his heart for his former love. He acknowledges her pain and recognizes that their love was true, but it was not meant to be. The final repetition of "flying through a yellow sky" serves as a bittersweet reminder of the dreams they once shared.
Overall, "Sweetpeas In Love" explores the pain, insecurity, and hope that comes with unrequited love. It reminds listeners that even though love may not always work out, the memories and feelings associated with it can still hold a special place in our hearts.

Composed by the great Luther Dixon, who not only wrote songs for many of the top artists of the 1950's and 1960's, but also, as a producer, helped create the signature sound of the girl group the Shirelles. Super post, Charles!
