The Stone Roses released their second album, Second Coming, in 1994, which received mixed reviews. The group soon disbanded after several line-up changes throughout the supporting tour, which began with Reni departing in early 1995, followed by Squire in April 1996. Brown and Mani dissolved the remains of the group in October 1996 following their appearance at Reading Festival.
Following much intensified media speculation, the Stone Roses called a press conference on 18 October 2011 to announce that the band had reunited and would perform a reunion world tour in 2012, including three homecoming shows in Heaton Park, Manchester. Plans to record a third album in the future were also floated but only two singles were released. In June 2012, Chris Coghill, the writer of a new film which is set during the Stone Roses 1990 Spike Island show, revealed that the band "have at least three or four new tracks recorded". In June 2013, a documentary about the band's reformation directed by Shane Meadows and titled The Stone Roses: Made of Stone was released.
In 2016, the Stone Roses released their first new material in two decades. The band members continued to tour until June 2017, at which point cryptic remarks by Brown indicated the band had split again, which was later confirmed in a 2019 interview with Squire.

The Stone Roses Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Your careering off the track
Your too busy doing nothing
You don't see that it won't last
When your strung across the age gap
All your friends spin down the drain
And your the proof of that old cliche
If I could only have my time again
Hand on-off the handle
Where's your self respect?
Your water up all sucked ending
Where's your measurement now?
Think your the artful Dodger
You can only dodge for so long
And when fate it pulls your plug out
You'll wonder what went wrong
Hand on-off your handle
Where's your self respect?
Your water up all sucked ending
Where's your measurement now?
There's no way back
No way back
Just a little bit
Just a little bit
When your stung across the age gap
All your friends speed down the train
And your to prune that old cliche
If I could only have my time again
Hand on-off the handle
Where's your self respect?
Your water up all sucked ending
Where's your measurement now?
Nowhere fast
Nowhere fast
Just a little bit
Just a little bit
In "Just a Little Bit," The Stone Roses criticize someone who is stuck in a dead-end relationship because they refuse to acknowledge the reality of the situation. The person in question is convinced they are in love with their partner but is unable to see that their relationship is doomed to fail. The singer points out that their friend is wasting their time on something that won't last, and as a result, they are drifting through life aimlessly without any significant purpose. The lyrics depict a theme of self-reflection, regret for past mistakes, and a desire to change things for the better.
The song's chorus, "Just a little bit," plays on repeat and serves as a form of comfort for anyone experiencing a sense of lost time or disillusionment in their lives. The song includes a specific reference to the "artful dodger," a character from Charles Dickens's classic novel "Oliver Twist." This reference reinforces the idea that the person in question is trying to dodge the inevitable consequence of their actions, but fate will eventually "pull the plug out" and reveal the truth.
