The Stone Roses released their second album, Second Coming, in 1994, which received mixed reviews. The group soon disbanded after several line-up changes throughout the supporting tour, which began with Reni departing in early 1995, followed by Squire in April 1996. Brown and Mani dissolved the remains of the group in October 1996 following their appearance at Reading Festival.
Following much intensified media speculation, the Stone Roses called a press conference on 18 October 2011 to announce that the band had reunited and would perform a reunion world tour in 2012, including three homecoming shows in Heaton Park, Manchester. Plans to record a third album in the future were also floated but only two singles were released. In June 2012, Chris Coghill, the writer of a new film which is set during the Stone Roses 1990 Spike Island show, revealed that the band "have at least three or four new tracks recorded". In June 2013, a documentary about the band's reformation directed by Shane Meadows and titled The Stone Roses: Made of Stone was released.
In 2016, the Stone Roses released their first new material in two decades. The band members continued to tour until June 2017, at which point cryptic remarks by Brown indicated the band had split again, which was later confirmed in a 2019 interview with Squire.

The Stone Roses Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don't know if I'm alive, dead, dying, or just a little jaded
Someone throw me a line
You know I need it
I need it bad
Lost in a maze of my own making
No way out that I can find, send home your hard-working jury
You better believe it
Yes you had
So if you hear me crying, or talking in my sleep
Don't be afraid, it's just the hours that I keep
We gotta love to last for a million years
A love that could never fade through the tracks of your tears
All I can do is hope that you will see me fall
Do your best to smash my picture on your wall
Forgive me baby, absolve me, my dear
I've seen the future in the tracks of your tears
I've seen the future in the tracks of your tears
Of your tears
All those tears
I cast a shorter shadow with every passing day
No time to think, I'm just fading away
Some kind of magic in all your hopes and fears
Shows me the future through the tracks of your tears
The Stone Roses's song Tears is a love song that captures the tumultuous and uncertain nature of romantic relationships. The opening line "Our love, girl, is going through changes" sets the tone for the song, suggesting that the relationship between the singer and their partner is in flux. This uncertainty is exacerbated by the line "I don't know if I'm alive, dead, dying, or just a little jaded", which suggests that the singer is struggling to understand their own feelings about the relationship.
The chorus of the song is a plea for help, with the singer asking someone to throw them a line as they feel lost in a maze of their own making. The line "send home your hard-working jury" suggests that the singer is looking for a way out of their predicament but is not sure which direction to go in. The chorus ends with the line "You better believe it, yes you had", which suggests that the singer is warning their partner that they are in trouble and need their help.
The second verse of the song continues the theme of uncertainty and vulnerability, with the singer stating that they are going down this time and that their partner needs to believe them. The line "So if you hear me crying, or talking in my sleep, Don't be afraid, it's just the hours that I keep" suggests that the singer is struggling to come to terms with their feelings and that they may be talking about their relationship even in their sleep. The final lines of the song, "I've seen the future in the tracks of your tears, Of your tears, All those tears", are a powerful image of emotional pain and heartbreak that leaves the listener with a sense of the emotional toll that love and relationships can take.
