Daughters
The Story So Far Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Before you twist your tongue,
No there's no chance at all.
Came here against my will,
And my will's tested strong.

Until now, I know we've never met
But I don't wanna talk and I'm already upset.
That you'll meet your demise in a drunken man's bed.
Take another pull to make certain you forget.

And to think that you're somebody's daughter.
Away at college not getting smarter.

Everything changes when all the lights in the room are as low as you,
But don't trip you'll sober up soon.
Regain an honest perspective as you puke on the floor.
Can't remember why your knees are so cut up and sore.

And you'll be hung over again. (again! again!)
You'll be hung over again. (again! again)
You'll be hung over again. (again! again)

You'll be hung over again. (again! again)
You'll be hung over again. (again! again)

Overall Meaning

The Story So Far's song Daughters speaks of the dangers and consequences of excessive drinking and partying, especially for young women. The opening lines address the listener's potential objections, indicating that there is no chance for a change of mind on the subject. The singer then goes on to describe a young woman who is away at college and drinking heavily, and the negative impact this is having on her life.

The line "that you'll meet your demise in a drunken man's bed" is particularly striking, as it suggests a very real danger faced by women who drink excessively and may not be in control of their surroundings or decisions. The chorus, which repeats the phrase "you'll be hung over again" drives home the idea that this lifestyle is not sustainable and has negative consequences that can't be avoided.

The song as a whole is a cautionary tale, urging listeners to reconsider the choices they make while partying and drinking. It is a reminder that we all have responsibilities to ourselves and to others to stay safe and make good choices, especially when under the influence.

@cxssetteman182

@Benjamin Watt It is Pop-punk, and you got it right.
This 2010s era of Pop-punk was heavily influenced by Hardcore.

While in the early 2000s, the only band that came out of the hardcore scene we're New Found Glory and Saves the Day.
You got it on point, although this is still Pop-punk, since Hardcore is a bit heavier than this
