Reptilia
The Strokes㠀 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He seemed impressed by the way you came in
"Tell us a story, I know you're not boring"
I was afraid that you would not insist
"You sound so sleepy, just take this, now leave me"

I said, please don't slow me down if I'm going too fast
You're in a strange part of our town
Yeah, the night's not over, you're not trying hard enough
Our lives are changing lanes, you ran me off the road
The wait is over, I'm now taking over
You're no longer laughing, I'm not drowning fast enough

Now every time that I look at myself
"I thought I told you, this world is not for you"
The room is on fire as she's fixing her hair
"You sound so angry, just calm down, you found me"

I said please don't slow me down if I'm going too fast
You're in a strange part of our town

Yeah, the night's not over, you're not trying hard enough
Our lives are changing lanes, you ran me off the road

The wait is over, I'm now taking over
You're no longer laughing, I'm not drowning fast enough

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Reptilia" by The Strokes feat. DJ Cremoso convey a sense of urgency and desperation. The singer is struggling to keep up with the fast-paced changes in his life and the people around him. The lyrics suggest that the singer is meeting someone new, someone who seems to be impressed with him, and is asked to tell a story. However, he becomes increasingly fearful that he'll be interrupted, and he asks the person not to slow him down if he's going too fast. He seems to be pushing forward and trying to avoid anything that may delay him.

As the song progresses, the singer becomes more agitated and frustrated, as he realizes that he's being left behind. He's trying to keep up with the quick pace of life around him and not be drowned by it. He feels like he's been run off the road and is struggling to keep his head above water. The lyrics symbolize the pressure that many people experience in the modern world.

Overall, "Reptilia" is a powerful song about the struggle to keep up with the ever-changing world around us. It speaks to the fear and desperation that many people feel when they realize they're falling behind or they're not living up to their potential. It's a song that speaks to the modern-day anxieties of many of us, and it's a reminder that we need to keep pushing forward and not let life get the better of us.

Puni Puni sensei. I am sick. Cannot learn NIHONGO. I sick from YOKO MESHI. I think i too old to learn NIHONGO now. So easy Wasurete. Sumimasen. You so good sensei.

@Doug_Fany

I feel the same. Progress is slow for me and it's really frustrating (yoko meshi somewhat). But hey, don't be like me, try different methods. The more you progress you'll see it will worth it. Even if you're like 50-ish, I feel like worth it.
