Hard to Explain
The Strokes Lyrics

Was an honest man
Asked me for the phone
Tried to take control
Oh, I don't see it that way
I don't see it that way
We shared some ideas
All obsessed with fame
Says we're all the same
Oh, I don't see it that way
I don't see it that way

Raised in Carolina
I'm not like that
Tryin' to remind her
When we go back

I missed the last bus, I'll take the next train
I'll try but you see, it's hard to explain
I say the right thing, but act the wrong way
I like it right here, but I cannot stay
I watch the TV, forget what I'm told
Well, I am too young, and they are too old
The joke is on you, this place is a zoo
You're right it's true

He says he can't decide
I shake my head to say
Everything's just great
Oh, I just can't remember
I just can't remember

Raised in Carolina
She says, "I'm not like that"
Tryin' to remind her
When we go back

I say the right thing, but act the wrong way
I like it right here, but I cannot stay
I watch the TV, forget what I'm told
Well, I am too young, and they are too old
Oh man, can't you see I'm nervous? So please
Pretend to be nice, so I can be mean
I missed the last bus, we'll take the next train
I'll try but you see, it's hard to explain

I see many comments explaining how they found The Strokes. Here is my story

I discovered them through a friend of mine, who recommended me "Is This It?" about 5 or 6 years ago. At that time I only listened to electronic music (and nothing but electronic music)
The very first time I listened to the album I didnt like it and since i had a CD copy, i gave it to my dad as a present.

Around 4 months later "Hard to Explain" was playing on my dad's car and I LOVED that pause after the chorus, at that exact moment I "shazamed" the song and for my surprise was "The Strokes"so as soon as we arrived home I grabbed the CD and went straight to my room to give the whore record a spin. Of course needles to say I was tottaly blown away.

I think I can say that specifically this song changed my life, I went from listening purely EDM to 80% of my iTunes library being just rock, from wearing super skinny jeans, bright colored shirts to wear black, leather jackets, converse, leaving my hair grow long and even buying my first guitar AND bass. I just wanted to be one of The Strokes.

and still do :)

This band has been the soundtrack of my teenage years, and the best thing is that my whole group of friends also love the heck out of this band, my mother, my father, even my grandparents.

This group has too many good songs but always, always, until the end of my days Hard to Explain will be my favorite, it literally changed my life, The Strokes changed my life in just 3 months.

Thank you Julian, Albert, Nick, Fab & Nikolai
Dearly a Fan. a HUGE fan.

@Jesse what rock? There is barely any and most holds little value, especially in the last decade

Sean Kilburn

There isn’t much competition though
