All Over Again
The Stumble Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got a good mind to give up living
And go shopping instead
I said I got a good mind to give up living
And go shopping instead
To pick up me out a tombstone
And be pronounced stone-dead

When I read your letter this mornin' baby
I was in your place, in bed
When I read your letter this mornin' baby
I was in your place, in bed
That's when I decided
I'd be better off, better off dead

The letter read:
It's no use you lookin' for me baby
Or ever hoping to get me back
There's no use you lookin' for me baby
Or ever hoping to get me back
'Cause it's all over now baby
Heyyyyy baby
Bet on that

It's no use you lookin' for me baby
Or ever hoping to get me back
There's no use you lookin' for me baby
Or ever hoping to get me back

'Cause it's all over now baby
Heeeeeeeeyyyyy

Overall Meaning

The Stumble's song All Over Again is a blues number that talks about the desperation of a man who has received a letter from his lover, informing him that their relationship has ended. In the first verse, the singer expresses his desire to give up living and go shopping instead, indicating his overwhelming desire to escape from his current situation. He talks about picking up a tombstone and being pronounced stone-dead, which is a metaphor for his desire to end his life, rather than facing the pain of losing his love.

In the second verse, the singer talks about how he felt when he read his lover's letter. He says that he was in bed, which is a place of comfort and solace. However, after reading the letter, he decided that he would be better off dead. The letter itself is mentioned in the third and fourth verses, where the singer suggests that his lover has left him for good. He points out that there is no use looking for him or hoping to get him back as their relationship is over.

The song conveys a sense of hopelessness and desperation, with the singer feeling that he has lost everything that mattered to him. The tone of the lyrics is melancholic and introspective, with the singer contemplating his own mortality. Overall, All Over Again is a deeply emotional song that captures the pain of heartbreak and the struggle to cope with loss.

I remember when we recorded this back in early 2006. It's great how someone has kind of made a movie of it all these years later. This track, which had been a live staple for many years and was well road tested, was recorded in just one take with all of us (yes even Paul the singer)one evening in an old church hall in Lancashire UK Colin really pulled it out the bag on this one and it always sounds great. You can still hear Boyd's snare drum rattling when it goes quiet! Line up was Paul Melville/Colin Black/Dave Heath/Jonny Spencer, Boyd Tonner and Simon Dixon on sax. Great times and happy days..glad people are still enjoying this recording after so many years. Jonny
