Jukebox
The Summer Set Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Life goes on
We got all night
If you got rock and roll
You're gonna be alright
Friday night at the bar
Where everybody knows my name
And I don't know what she's doing here
But I'm glad she came
From her cowboy boots
Up to her little black dress
I need a Jameson shot of confidence
And I'll let her do the rest
She's kinda like a scene in a movie
She says I can't sleep alone
I really like The Stones and I hate TV
Well I must confess
I'm a little obsessed with Dawson's Creek
Yeah I know what you're thinking
It's not what it seems
Can I buy you a drink?

Then she said life goes on
We got all night
If you got rock and roll
You're gonna be alright
So give me one more drink
And play my favorite song
Put a quarter in the jukebox
And sing along

Last call on the round
And now I'm seeing stars
We're invincible
Don't matter who you are
Well a tattooed biker
And the bartender got into a fight
Then they both sang along
To a Springsteen song
And they're alright

'Cause life goes on
We got all night
If you got rock and roll
You're gonna be alright
So give me one more drink
And play my favorite song
Put a quarter in the jukebox
And sing along

If you got a drink put it in the air
here's a toast cause we just don't care

If you got a voice then sing
'Cause life goes on and on and on [x2]

Overall Meaning

The Summer Set's song "Jukebox" is essentially about living in the present moment and enjoying life despite the obstacles and difficulties that come with it. The song is a depiction of a night at the bar where the singer is glad to be surrounded by familiar faces and rock and roll music. The woman he meets at the bar is someone he finds intriguing for her taste in music and her 'scene in a movie' appearance. They bond over their love for music but also confess to their guilty pleasures such as the show 'Dawson's Creek'. The singer is unsure of his chances with her but, despite his lack of confidence, he decides to buy her a drink anyway, a Jameson Shot, which he sees as a boost of confidence to pursue his potential romance with the woman.

The bridge of the song talks about how the people at the bar are diverse, with a tattooed biker and a bartender getting into a fight but then bonding over a Springsteen song. The song conveys the message that in the moment, we can be happy and connected despite our differences or difficulties. The lyrics of the song, offer insight into the importance of living in the present and enjoying the moments that are right in front of us, surrounded by good company, good music and of course, the jukebox.

Benjamin Fredrick

They’re music is very upbeat and positive, today’s music is a lot more depressed and about negative things, so simply the majority demographic isn’t interested with this type of music we’ve all become a bunch of doomers.

DodoFoodfight1237

I don’t think The Summer Set are underrated. They just aren’t talked about enough, like The Casagrandes.
