The Sunrise breaks the mold of cookie-cutter popular music with engaging, inspirational, and often convicting songs - meant for true music fans - while emphasizing the message of Jesus Christ.
Regarding The Sunrise, Chris Hillman of the Byrds remarks, "sweet, melodic and moving, just a few words to describe The Sunrise. The joy of music lives in our hearts and souls, one of many gifts bestowed by our Lord and so beautifully conveyed by The Sunrise band."
The Sunrise's sound has been compared to 'a Christian Wilco' and the White Stripes by Jesusfreakhideout.com; with songwriting compared to Paul McCartney, Seals & Crofts, Don McLean and Todd Rundgren by Goldmine Magazine.
Christianity Today Magazine called The Sunrise's debut album, Spread The Word, "a fine album with pointed lyrics addressing romantic love, social justice, pride, emotional abuse, spiritual transformation and even an altar call."
Interestingly, when the album Spread the Word was released, The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio said The Sunrise "sounds like Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young and Jesus."
This would prove to be an astute foresight, as The Sunrise is blessed to have Crosby Stills Nash & Young drummer Joe Vitale as a special guest on the title track of the band's second album, We Have Not Heard.
In addition, the amazing guitar work of Phil Keaggy graces three tracks of The Sunrise's sophomore release. He is featured on We Have Not Heard, Judgement Day, and Like The Sunrise.

The Sunrise Lyrics

Living for his family day and night
Until the night he made himself deactivated
Running far away with that someone
Well, it's unfair
They made it all the way there
Make it go away
No way this time it ain't my sorrow
Make it go away
All the lines we say, the games we play, it ain't just fair
Make me strong today
I know the night
I've seen the girls wear nothing but their dreams around
Knowing they never come true
And I've seen the sky
Did reach up to the stars and all I found was myself lying on the ground
Well, it's unfair
They make it all the way there
[Chorus]
Make it go away
No way this time it ain't me
[Chorus: x2]
Make me strong today
And make me believe
The Sunrise’s song ‘Away’ is a powerful and introspective track that explores the struggles and challenges of life. The lyrics paint a picture of a young man who has dedicated himself to his family, but at a cost of his own happiness. He has found love but is forced to leave it all behind to pursue his own dreams. The singer talks about the unfairness of life, how some people make it even though they don't deserve it, and how he has seen others give up on their dreams because they don't think they will ever come true.
The chorus is a plea to run away from it all, to make the pain and suffering disappear. The singer longs for the strength to face his problems and to persevere through tough times. He wants to believe in himself and his abilities and not be held back by the injustices of life. The Sunrise's song ‘Away’ is a powerful reminder to take control of our own lives and not let the challenges and difficulties define who we are.
