[1] The… Read Full Bio ↴There are multiple artists who have gone by The Supertones.
[1] The O.C. Supertones (a.k.a. The Supertones) were a Christian ska band hailing from Orange County, California. The O.C. stands for Orange County and was formally used to differentiate them from another group, but they generally were referred to as The Supertones by fans and publicity, especially as of their second album. The band was formerly signed to Tooth & Nail Records before becoming an independent band for its final tour. Beginning with a more traditional ska sound, the Supertones moved next to a harder rock sound, which eventually changed again with more of a pop-rock influence.
The band began in the early 1990s as Saved. Originally formed by Matt Morginsky, Jason Carson and Tony Terusa while in Junior High School, the band played a mix of many styles including punk, rap, metal, disco, and funk. In 1995 they formed as The Orange County Supertones and settled on a ska based sound.
In the late 1990s The Supertones achieved wide popularity in the Christian and secular community. Their second album, 1997's release Supertones Strike Back, was a surprise smash hit, peaking on both Billboard's Heatseekers and Top Christian Albums charts at 3 and 2 respectively. Beginning with a more traditional ska sound, The Supertones moved next to a harder rock sound, which eventually changed again with more of a pop-rock influence. Their next two albums, 1999's Chase the Sun and 2000's Loud and Clear, each charted on the Billboard 200 chart. They continued to release albums until 2005, at which point they went on indefinite hiatus. This ended when they reunited for some shows in 2010. Since then they have had stints in 2012 and 2017, performing various reunion and anniversary shows. Their 2017 commemoration of the 20th anniversary of their most well-received album "Supertones Strike Back" was presented as a definitive "final show".
[2] The Supertones are an "instrumental surf" band from NYC active since 1988. They have released at least 12 albums.

Turn the track up
A little louder now
Alright come on
Coming to you straight from LP number five
This is the Supertones, this is the Supertones
Everybody please report, please report to your radio
Turn the radio up
We came with jams equipped and I
I brought some rhymes to spit and our
Beats to move your feet and hips and uh
Jesus in these lyrics, now
We haven't stayed here all these years to be no superstars
For those who thought we went away, well people here we are
Lp number five and we have not begun to get it done
Christ the focus, can you feel where I am comin' from, yeah
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Can you hear this?
Better turn it up
And when you feel me, then it's loud enough
Come on everybody don't be shy
Just come inside, you've got a right to rock the superfly
That's right, a right to rock the superfly
Now we can take it away
We came to rock the sureshot
We came to do the robot
Hate and stress alleviation
Spiritual inspiration
We want to elevate your mind to think on the most high
We came to lift your spirits up, so people that is why
We educate and put this information onto tape, yeah
And demonstrate the common grace of God, but hold up wait
Yeah, yeah, hey hey hey
Yeah, yeah, c'mon c'mon
Can you hear this?
Better turn it up
And when you feel me, then it's loud enough
Come on everybody don't be shy
Just come inside, you've got a right to rock the superfly (c'mon)
Hit it, everything is with the greats now
C'mon, c'mon
A pick it up now
Can you hear this?
Better turn it up
And when you feel me, then it's loud enough
Come on everybody don't be shy
Just come inside, you've got a right to rock the superfly
Just come inside, you've got a right to rock the superfly
The Supertones' song "Superfly" is a high-energy, upbeat track that blends elements of ska and rock, with a clear message of Christian faith. The opening lines command attention, with the band pumping up the volume and imploring listeners to turn the radio dial up even higher. The song then launches into a description of the Supertones themselves - a group equipped with "jams," "rhymes," and "beats" - all of which are designed to get listeners moving to the music. But what sets the Supertones apart from other bands is their explicit focus on Jesus Christ, who is mentioned repeatedly in the song's lyrics.
The second verse of "Superfly" sees the Supertones addressing their detractors head-on. The band members acknowledge that they haven't achieved superstar status in the commercial sense, but argue that they have stuck around for one reason: to promote Christ through their music. The song then returns to its catchy chorus, with an insistent call for listeners to turn the volume up even louder and "rock the superfly" - a phrase that seems to capture the Supertones' high-energy approach to music and ministry.
Overall, "Superfly" is a song that encourages listeners to embrace joy and exuberance, even in the face of life's difficulties. Its message of spiritual inspiration and "common grace" is one that's resonated with fans of the Supertones, who have continued to tour and record for many years.
