Founded in Detroit, Michigan, United States in 1959, The Supremes began as a quartet called The Primettes. Founding members Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, and Betty McGlown, all from the Brewster-Douglas public housing project in Detroit, were the sister act to The Primes (later The Temptations). In 1960, Barbara Martin replaced McGlown, and the group signed with Motown in 1961 as The Supremes. Martin left at the end of 1961, and Ross, Ballard, and Wilson carried on as a trio. After they achieved success in the mid-1960s with Ross as the lead singer, Motown president Berry Gordy renamed the group Diana Ross & the Supremes in 1967, and replaced Ballard with Cindy Birdsong. Ross left the group for a solo career in 1970, and was replaced by Jean Terrell. After 1972, the lineup of the Supremes changed frequently, with Lynda Laurence, Scherrie Payne, and Susaye Greene all becoming members before the group ended its eighteen-year existence in 1977.
Baby Baby Wo ist Unsere Liebe
The Supremes Lyrics

Baby lass mich nicht
Ooh, bitte verlass mich nicht
All by myself
Ich habe diese Sehnsucht, Brennen
Yearning feelin 'in mir
Ooh, tief in mir
Du kamst in mein Herz
Baby, Baby
So zart
Mit einer brennenden Liebe
Dass sticht wie eine Biene
Nun, ich gebe
So hilflos
Nun will mich verlassen
Ooh, verlassen Sie will mich
Ooh, baby, baby
Baby, Baby, Baby
Wo hast unsere Liebe gehen?
Ooh, du nicht willst, dass ich
Glaubst du nicht, dass ich nicht mehr
Ooh, baby
Baby, Baby, Baby
Wo hast unsere Liebe gehen
Ooh, du nicht willst, dass ich
Glaubst du nicht, dass ich nicht mehr
Ooh, baby
Baby
The Supremes' song "Baby Baby Wo Ist Unsere Liebe" is a beautiful ballad about heartbreak and longing. The opening lines "Baby, baby, baby, Baby lass mich nicht/ Ooh, bitte verlass mich nicht" convey a desperate plea to hold on to a relationship that is falling apart. The singer is overwhelmed by the feeling of emptiness and pain that seems to be consuming her. She describes a "yearning feeling" deep inside of her that hurts so much. The next verse describes how this person came into her life and brought love that was so intense it was like a sting from a bee.
The chorus repeats the question, "Baby, Baby, Baby, Wo hast unsere Liebe gehen?" which means "Baby, Baby, Baby, where has our love gone?" The singer is wondering what happened to their love and begging for it to come back. The song expresses a deep sense of loss and betrayal by a lover who is leaving.
The Supremes were known for their soulful and powerful performances and this song is no exception. The raw emotion and vulnerability conveyed in the lyrics are backed by a beautifully executed melody that is both haunting and catchy.
