in April/May 2006, the quartet played six shows in Ireland to support the release of The Swell Season. Later in the year (October & December) they also played a number of shows in the US to support the release of the album there. The huge success of the film Once resulted in Glen and Markéta touring the US constantly during 2007 and the line-up morphed over time (Glen and Markéta being the core members). The current Swell Season line-up also includes three members of The Frames: guitarist Rob Bochnik, violinist Colm Mac Con Iomaire, and bassist Joe Doyle. Graham Hopkins joined the tour on drums in spring of 2008.
Hansard and Markéta starred in the film 'Once' by writer/director John Carney (a former bass player of The Frames). Many songs of The Swell Season are used in this film, which won the World Cinema Audience Award at Sundance 2007. Hansard and Irglová won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for the song "Falling Slowly" in February 2008.

All the Way Down
The Swell Season Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Down upon my knees
And you have broken me all the way now
You'll be the last you'll see
And some fight you gave
When I pushed you away from me
And in the morning when you're turning
And you have broken me all the way down
You'll be the last you'll see
And what chance had we got
When you missed every shot for me
And in the morning when you're turning
I'll be out of reach
And in the darkness when you find this
I'll be far to sea
And you have broken me all the way down
You'll be the last you see
The Swell Season's song "All the Way Down" is a heart-wrenching ballad about love and heartbreak. The singer of the song is completely broken by his lover, who has brought him down to his knees. He knows that he is at the mercy of his lover and that she will be the last person he sees in his life. The song goes on to describe the struggle of the relationship and the lengths that the singer goes to try to fix things, while the other person seems to be making no effort. In the end, he knows that their love had no chance from the start, and he will be out of reach when she finally realizes what she has done.
The lyrics of "All the Way Down" are the embodiment of emotional pain and heartbreak. The singer is so completely broken that he can barely stand, and he knows that he is at the mercy of his lover. He has tried to fix things and has pushed her away, but it seems that it was all for nothing. He knows that their love had no chance from the start, and he will be far away when she realizes the damage she has done. The song is a sad and beautiful reflection on love and its complexities.

You have broken me all the way down
You have caused me to feel completely shattered and defeated
Down upon my knees
I am in a state of submission and vulnerability
And you have broken me all the way now
You have completely broken me to a point of no return
You'll be the last you'll see
You will never witness the extent of the damage you have caused
And some fight you gave
You put up some resistance
When I pushed you away from me
When I tried to distance myself from you
And in the morning when you're turning
When you awake and face reality
I'll be far to sea
I will be long gone and unreachable
And what chance had we got
What possibility did we have for success
When you missed every shot for me
When you failed to succeed in anything for my sake
And in the morning when you're turning
When you awake and face reality
I'll be out of reach
I will be unattainable and distant
And in the darkness when you find this
When you face this truth in a state of hopelessness
I'll be far to sea
I will remain out of your reach and unable to be saved
And you have broken me all the way down
You have caused me to feel completely shattered and defeated
You'll be the last you'll see
You will never witness the extent of the damage you have caused
