In 2002, the group signed with Flicker Records, which is owned by members of Audio Adrenaline, and changed their name to The Swift. They released their self-titled album later that year.
After a debut that brought them moderate success, The Swift then released their second album entitled Today. Early 2004 brought about a line-up change. Guitarist Chris Byers decided to leave the band and was replaced by Justin Sharbono (formerly of Superchic[k] fame).
After only seven months with the band, guitarist Sharbono left the band to pursue other interests. In order to fill the void, the band decided to reach back into their hometown and added guitarist Matt Wilder (also from Zaccheus Tree) to the roster in December, 2004. Drummer Trae Drose announced his decision to leave the band in May of 2006. He was replaced by Guy Lemon. The band released an independent worship EP before leaving Flicker Records to sign with Michael W. Smith's Rocket Town Records. A new album is scheduled for release in October of 2006.

It ain't nothing I've never seen before.
The golden rule. You've got to be cool,
But you're a fool if you believe it.
Take all my everything,
And make it brand new
Cause You are everything
'Cause everything's all been done.
If there's something new, it can only come from You
You're the only thing new under the sun.
They chase their dreams in magazines and movie screens.
That don't mean anything.
It's not for me, cause I don't agree.
I don't want to be less than You want me to be.
Give me something more that I've never seen before
'Cause everything's all been done.
If there's something new, it can only come from You
You're the only thing new under the sun.
Under the sun, nana-na-na
Give me something more that I've never seen before
'Cause everything's all been done.
If there's something new, it can only come from You
You're the only thing new under the sun.
In the song "Under The Sun" by The Swift, the lead singer expresses dissatisfaction with the superficialities of the world. The first verse seems to criticize the societal norms of beauty and fashion, comparing them to something that is predictable and boring. The golden rule of being cool is called out as foolish because it is just an illusion of what society deems as acceptable. She asks for something more interesting and original, declaring that everything has already been seen and done before. However, the only source of true novelty and creativity is from God who can take what she has and make it new.
In the following verse, the singer targets the aspirations that people have for material success and fame that are oftentimes fueled by media representation. The lyrics suggest that this is an empty pursuit that has no meaning, and that pursuing goals based solely on those representations is not for her. The singer resolves to not settle for anything less than what God has in store for her. The chorus reiterates her earlier plea for something new that can only come from God. The phrase "You are everything" addresses the belief that God is the ultimate creator, and the embodiment of all that is good and pure.
