Shakin' All Over
The Swinging Blue Jeans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you move in right up close to me
That's when I get the shakes all over me
Quivers down my back bone
I've got the shakes down the kneebone
Yeah havin' the tremors in the thighbone
Shakin' all over

Just the way you say goodnight to me
Brings that feeling on inside of me
Quivers down my back bone
I've got the quivers down the thighbone
Yeah the tremors in my back bone
Shakin' all over

Quivers down my back bone
Yeah I have the shakes in the kneebone
I've got the tremors in the back bone
Shakin' all over

Well, you make me shake and I like it, baby

Well, you make me shake and I like it, baby
Well, you make me shake and I like it, baby

Overall Meaning

The Swinging Blue Jeans's hit song "Shakin' All Over" is a prime example of how simple lyrics and a catchy melody can make a powerful impact. The song is all about the physical and emotional sensations of being attracted to someone. The first verse describes the physical reactions the singer experiences when they are close to the person they are attracted to. The second verse describes the emotional reactions the singer experiences when the person says goodnight to them. These reactions, which are described as "quivers" and "tremors," suggest a mixture of excitement, anxiety, and arousal. It's clear that the singer is deeply affected by the other person's presence and actions, and that this connection is intense and physical.

The chorus of the song reinforces this theme of physical and emotional connection, repeating the phrase "shakin' all over" with increasing intensity. The repetition of this phrase, combined with the driving rhythm of the music, creates a sense of urgency and passion. The final lines of the song, in which the singer declares "you make me shake and I like it, baby," suggest that this intense attraction is ultimately enjoyable and fulfilling.

Overall, "Shakin' All Over" is a classic rock and roll love song that captures the thrill of physical and emotional attraction. Its simple lyrics and driving musical style have made it a beloved classic, and its themes of passion and desire continue to resonate with audiences today.

@2degucitas

WHY was this band not bigger? They rock!!

@viggozing598

They turned down Brian Epstein and Ed Sullivan... oh boy...

@QueenFan12

They don't have an enduring legacy but from 1964 to 1966 they were on the heels of the Beatles! These guys were massive! Some of the biggest hits of 1964 come from these guys! The lead singer Ray Ennis got knighted last year!
