New Horizons
The Sylvers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can't let the sun go down on me, oh no more
Can't let myself be washed out at sea, I gotta stay ashore
The world is full of ups and downs, you know what I mean
I got to make my mark in life, I'am through with dreams

Now I got to push ahead, 'cause the more I put out
The more it comes back
I'll do better things instead of hanging out in the streets
'Cause when the lights go down I'll see, I'm free

Got to meet my new horizon
Ooh, got to meet my new horizon
I got to live my life, I got to live my life

Now I got to push ahead
Undo better things instead
I'll see, I'm free

Got to meet my new horizon
Got to meet my new horizon
I got to live my life, I got to live my life, ooh

Got to meet my new horizon
Got to meet my new horizon
The world is full of ups and downs, yeah

I got to live my life, I'm through, I am through with dreams
Got to meet my new horizon

Overall Meaning

The Sylvers's song New Horizons is an upbeat track that encapsulates the story of a person who is determined to succeed in life. The opening line of the song states, "Can't let the sun go down on me, oh no more," which can be interpreted as the singer's refusal to let another day pass them by without achieving their goals. They also affirm that they cannot allow themselves to be lost in the sea of mediocrity, instead, they choose to stay ashore and forge ahead towards their dreams.

The track continues by highlighting the transient nature of life, and the importance of making a mark in it. The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Got to meet my new horizon" which suggests that the singer is seeking new opportunities and experiences to help them forge ahead in life. Additionally, the lines "I got to live my life, I'm through with dreams" reiterates the idea that the singer is no longer content with dreaming about success, but wants to take action and achieve it.

Overall, New Horizons is a song about perseverance and determination, and the belief that there is always a new horizon to strive towards. It's a call to action for anyone who is tired of dreaming about their goals and is ready to take steps towards achieving them.

@Jazz Shrooms Trap & Boom Bap sorry I just now responding. Youtube really needs to update its, and especially the notification system. I do get a lot of notifications at times...

Anyways... your analysis - yeah. I see what you mean as to how they joined the chorus and verse / main groove segments. And you're right... maybe I just need to listen to it more and allow those changes to sink in more...

Many of times this method has proven to be true, as it sometimes takes time for certain things to grow on me. That's the problem with what i call "musically illiterate" people. They will try and give you every reason as to why what they listen to is better than something new to their ears that you try turning them on to as a favor, and to share what inspires "yiu" musically. And they will not take even the slightest moment to "understand" the music that's foreign to them.

There's a reason why this kind of music, progressive rock, and the underground disco of the mid to late 1970s faded. It was much too complex for the majority of people to understand, and therefore like. Although with disco, it was mostly disinformation campaigns that caused the genre to fade. And NOT because rock a roll decided to kick disco out of town like the musically illiterate think and believe

That would have never been possible without record company an radio influence... which were the 2 factors that made the rockers famous in the first place... not "they" themselves. That goes to show the power of mass media. The way they can promote something one day and it becomes the newest thing overnight. And then next week they run a few ads convincing everyone that it now sucks... and people buy into this propaganda. It's unbelievable

Singing and writing wise they was better than the Jackson . Sorry but not sorry, I believe they blocked because of Jo Jackson and others in the music industry because they more talented then the Jackson’s .

Reading the comments below, I understand many think the Sylvers are underrated and should have been bigger, but let's not pit them against the Jacksons. These are 2 special groups that are both talented and gave us gems...there's enough room in this universe for both. Let's appreciate them both :)

Sidenote: this song kinda reminds me of Show You the Way to Go by The Jacksons....man, makes me wanna dj a party to play both songs at the end of the night :)
