Since Summer 2007, THE TASTE (NICK/drums and MARIA PATTUSCH/vocals, guitars) have been on the road as a duo (after starting out as a trio in 2004). In just a few months they’ve achieved what many other bands just dream about, having their track “Can’t Get Enough of Your Dang-Da-Dang” released in August on the “Fresh, Weird & Wonderful” compilation (Pistol Records, the label of ex-INXS manager Chris Murphy) which managed to reach Nr. 8 on the iTunes UK Alternative Album Charts as well as Nr. 68 on iTunes US.
This track from THE TASTE was the best selling one on the compilation and still is in Germany and the USA. Their song “Till There Was You” was subsequently released in October on the “Out of the Woods and Trees” compilation (UK, Dance to the Radio) alongside contributions from bands like FORWARD RUSSIA!, THE PIGEON DETECTIVES, HOWLING BELLS, SKY LARKIN and the GRAMMATICS. During the last few months THE TASTE have performed countless gigs in the UK, Germany and Austria. While doing so they have also toured as support act for JAMIE T., WE ARE SCIENTISTS, THE NOISETTES, FORWARD RUSSIA, TEST ICICLES, DUELS, SHITDISCO, THE ENEMY and TRAVIS.
TRAVIS were so impressed with the band that they immediately invited THE TASTE to do some additional dates with them back on their home turf in Scotland. FRAN HEALY & Co. were so thrilled with the song “Till There Was You” that they performed it twice with the band on stage.
Now on Rank Records, the long awaited debut single of the band is finally being released: “I Want You” (B-Side: “I Die When the Night Comes”) as a limited and numbered 7” vinyl single.
What's Going On

There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today, yea
Father, father
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today
Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Ah, what's going on
In the mean time
Right on, baby
Right on
Right on
Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
Oh
Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me
So you can see
What's going on
Ya, what's going on
Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's going on - Uh
Right on baby
Right on baby
The Taste's song "What's Going On" was released in 1971 and addresses the issues of war, discrimination, and social inequality faced by the African-American community at that time. The lyrics start with the line "Mother, mother, there's too many of you crying," which can be interpreted as a reference to the pain and suffering that many families were experiencing due to the loss of their loved ones in the war. The following line "Brother, brother, brother, there's far too many of you dying," also emphasizes the same message, highlighting the high number of African-American soldiers who were being killed in Vietnam.
The song then moves on to suggest that the right way to address these problems is through love rather than hatred or violence. The verse "You see, war is not the answer, for only love can conquer hate" conveys this message, and the chorus "What's going on" further emphasizes the need to address the current situation at hand.
The second verse addresses discrimination and social inequality, saying "Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong, but who are they to judge us simply because our hair is long." This can be interpreted as a reference to the cultural and social differences that were prevalent between the African-American and Caucasian communities at that time. The last line "Right on baby" is an encouragement to keep pushing forward to find solutions.

I saw him in Vancouver in early 70s. He opened for Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple . I knew his song Bullfrog Blues. I hollered for it several times but he didn't play it till the last song after two ovations. He said "this is for the guy up there and pointed to me." Made my night when he played a blistering version and got a magnificent send off from the crowd. RIP Mr Gallagher.

Tom Salisbury. That’s a great story bro. Must have been incredible to watch him live. His tone in this vid is amazing. You don’t hear these raunchy raw tones these days.

Tom I saw him too but in 87' but to see him with Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple holy shit!!! He was such a rare guitarist who didn't want to sell out and wanted to keep it real!! He's sorely missed To think Jimi Hendrix was on this gig maybe not this nite but he passed away a week later!!! Wonder what he thought of Rory?
@FR-ed4zy
Superbe hommage !
@HareTrigger55
@@simonmcgrath4112 Hendrix was asked in an interview, "How does it feel to be the best guitar player in the world?" and he answered "I don't know, you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher that."
@donashton6570
Don Ashton - ( Lame Gypsy) I got turned on to Rory very early ,..I. Aspired to try and play guitar like him,..but sadly I failed,.....so I became a better Drummer,! ....( get the logic )
@digitalsketchguy
He was the meanest cleanest blues rock player I've ever heard. Great singer songwriter. Never hit a bum note, improvised at will, responded to the audience energy, a superb showman, magician, & a very kind gentle egoless human being, proud Christian & real Irishman. RIP Rory Gallagher - may the road rise up to meet you.

RIP Rory🇮🇪. May the road rise to meet is a brilliant expression, I’d never heard it until recently on the Tommy Tiernan podcast.
