Unspoken
The Tealeaves Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There is no sound and I will wait until
The night has fallen across the day, dear
Don't tell me where you've been
Don't make a sound for I've already seen
My memory fades, my lines are broken
Before the end
I'm always here
I'm always here
I'm always here
I am always here
You're so familiar now
When you unwind all that I thought I'd found
My eyes are open and sorrow woken
So do not wait for me
I'll take my time, for we will always be
On borrowed time, we are unspoken
You caught me just in time
Before the end
I'm always here
I'm always here
I'm always here
I am always here
I am always here
I am always here
I am always here
I am always here
The Tealeaves’ song “Unspoken” is a hauntingly beautiful ballad about love and loss, with its sombre tone and fragile lyrics creating a sense of vulnerability and tenderness. The opening lines “I am breathing still, there is no sound, and I will wait until, the night has fallen across the day, dear” creates a sense of stillness and quietude, as if the singer is holding their breath, waiting for something to happen. The use of the word “dear” adds an emotional depth, suggesting that the singer is addressing someone he or she loves, but also creating a sense of distance.
The second verse “You’re so familiar now, when you unwind all that I thought I’d found, my eyes are open and sorrow woken” is powerful in the sense that it suggests that the singer has been betrayed or hurt by someone he or she trusted. The line “my eyes are open and sorrow woken” creates an image of someone who has been awakened from a dream and now feels the full weight of sadness and loss. The chorus “I’m always here” is repeated several times throughout the song, creating a sense of hopefulness and perseverance in the face of adversity.
Overall, "Unspoken" suggests that love is fragile and vulnerable but can also be enduring and persevering. The song evokes feelings of sadness, beauty, and hope all at once, reminding the listener that even in difficult times, we are never truly alone.

I saw the Tealeaves in Adelaide at the Wheaty, and even with only four of their members there, they were fantastic. Their CD is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
