So Long
The Teeth Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The man held
And don't forget
That they will judge you
Don't get me wrong
It's not a god
It's this world i'm thinking of
And when you wake up and can't stop shaking
They make no sense so
Don't get out of bed
It's not your head
It's this world i'm thinking of
The cars
The shoes
You're looking good
The compliments
The confidence
It doesn't mean shit
So just sit back
Let your body handle it
The things you do
They seem untrue
You'll never be
What you want to
Don't get me wrong
It's not your fault
It's what you get from your results
You lost
The one's you found
It's been so long
It's been so long
You lost
The one's you found
It's been so long
It's been so long
Can't go home and go to sleep again
You walk the streets
And blow your sight and then
You see the yellow lights
The cars at night
The creeps
The dogs
The broken lights
The smiles and screams
Of many things
The clothes you wear when you are there
Looking
Looking
Who are you fooling!?
Don't ever try
They will eat you
ALIVE
Instead
Say goodbye
Say goodbye!!!!!!!!!
The Teeth's song "So Long" is a reflection on the pressures of society and the struggle to find one's place within it. The opening lines of the song, "Bibles, the man held, and don't forget that they will judge you," immediately set the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The song talks about the expectations placed on individuals by others, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy and confusion.
The lyrics reference the materialistic aspects of society, such as cars and shoes, representing the pressure to conform to certain beauty standards. The line "It doesn't mean shit" serves as a reminder that these external factors do not define one's worth.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the idea that the trials and tribulations of life are not necessarily one's own fault. The lyrics state that "It's not your head, it's this world I'm thinking of." This line communicates the frustration of trying to navigate a complex world that can be unforgiving and unfair.
Ultimately, the song encourages listeners to embrace their individuality and not fall victim to societal pressure. The lyrics "Don't ever try, they will eat you ALIVE" is a warning that trying to please others can lead to losing one's true self.

Man this video was everything I'd hoped it would be. Shame to stumble across this and see it so neglected and dusty in some far off corner of YouTube. This song needs more love!
