The band evolved into a nine-piece ensemble with a light-hearted and humorous performing style.
The name "Temperance Seven" is a subtle play on words: the number seven being "one under the eight". That there were nine members or "one over the eight" implied intemperance.
They have links to Monty Python and the Rolling Stones.

For the record:
Sandbags, windbags, camels with the hump,
Fat girls, thin girls, some a little plump,
Slave girls sold here - fifty bob a lump;
In the old bazaar in Cairo!
Brandy, shandy, beer without a froth,
Braces, laces, a candle for the moth;
Bet you'd look a dolly in an old loin cloth!
In the old bazaar in Cairo!
You can buy most any-anything: %
Thin bulls, fat cows, a little bit of string; %
You can purchase anything you wish:
A clock! A dish[1]! And something for your Auntie Fanny, [2]
Harum, scarum, what d'you think of that?
Bare-knee striptease, dancing on the mat!
(Oompah! Oompah!) That's enough of that,
In the old bazaar in Cairo!
Rice-pud, very good, what's it all about?
Made it in a kettle and they couldn't get it out!
Everybody took a turn to suck it through the spout
In the old bazaar in Cairo!
Hamadan, Ramadan, everything in style,
Genuine bedouin, carpet with a pile,
Funny little odds-and-ends floating down the Nile
From the old bazaar in Cairo!
You can buy most any-anything: %
Sheep's eyes, sand pies,[3] a watch without a spring; %
You can buy a pomegranate too,
A water bag, a little bit of hookey pookey;
Yashmaks, Pontefracts, what a strange affair!
Dark girls, fair girls, some with ginger hair!
**THE REST OF THIS IS FUNNY, BUT THE CENSOR CUT IT THERE**
In the old bazaar in Cairo!
[1]I'm pretty sure my dad used to sing 'vase', here,
[2]and 'Nellie', here.
[3]Not completely certain about that.
Where % occurs, my dad would stick a 'there' on the end of the line. I liked it.
My dad's more musical than your dad.

I cannot stop listening to this, over and over again. And miming along. And... dancing. Oh, the dancing!
@kaycoe9251
On a cruise a few years ago we sang this in the choir. Love it now! I find myself singing it. Just love the quirky lyrics 🤪

@chrisdawson7596
I saw him at the Sands Club in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, he was brilliant and my mate and I had a drink at the bar with him, Top Man.
@keys1654
I worked with Clinton on my first summer season, in Yarmouth. Clinton was top of the bill, a great guy with a superb voice. God bless you Clinton. Steve Clarke

@EnlightenedPatriot1
I'm glad to have found this blast from the past. Happy days. My main recollection of hearing that very distinctive voice was on steam radio in the 50's. Perhaps the Billy Cotton Band show? Thanks.
@steveascott3575
Just added this to my repertoire -the audiences love it!
