The band evolved into a nine-piece ensemble with a light-hearted and humorous performing style.
The name "Temperance Seven" is a subtle play on words: the number seven being "one under the eight". That there were nine members or "one over the eight" implied intemperance.

Sadly the present incarnation of the Temperance Seven is not a patch on the original. Something lost down the years. This is wonderful, 1920's must have been a joyous time with this going on, probably only those with money were enjoying it though.
