When Will I See You Again
The Three Degrees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Precious moments)

When will I see you again?
When will we share precious moments?
Will I have to wait forever?
Will I have to suffer (suffer)
And cry the whole night through?
When will I see you again?
When will our hearts beat together?
Are we in love or just friends?
Is this my beginning or is this the end? (is this the end?)

When will I see you again?
(When will I see you again?)
When will I see you again, love?

(Precious moments)

Are we in love or just friends?
Is this my beginning or is this the end? (is this the end?)

When will I see you again?
(When will I see you again?)
Sweet, sweet love of mine
(When will I see you again?)
Come on, come on
(When will I see you again?)
Tell me, yeah
(When will I see you again?)
My sweet lover, yeah
(When will I see you again?)
Ooh, yeah
(When will I see you again?)
Come on, come on
(When will I see you again?)
Come on, come on
(When will I see you again?)
Ooh ooh, yeah

(When will I see you again?)
(When will I see you again?)

Overall Meaning

The Three Degrees's song When Will I See You Again is a timeless classic that speaks to the universal human experience of longing for love and connection. The opening line "When will I see you again?" is a plea for the return of a loved one, and the rest of the lyrics continue in the same vein, with the singer wondering when they will once again have the opportunity to share "precious moments" with their beloved. They express their fear that they may have to "wait forever" and that in the meantime they will have to "suffer" and "cry the whole night through."

The chorus repeats the same questions and concerns, with the singer wondering if they and their love interest are truly in love or merely friends, and whether their encounter is the beginning of a beautiful love story or the end of something that could have been. The song is filled with uncertainty and despair, but it also expresses a deep hope and desire for the return of love.

This song will always remind me of my Mom. Driving through the streets of Philly when I was a young boy back in the 70's. She has dementia now & doesn't know who I am. And that is a very hard pill to swallow. But this song reminds me of a time when my Mother loved me & she knew I was her son. Heartbreaking. But I find joy in the songs we sang together. Thank God for the little things that mean everything. ❤

Me and my Wife separated and I had to bring up our girls because she had an opioid addiction. She would call me up and play this song many times. The day she passed away I went into my job to let my Boss know and this song was playing on the store's radio station. That floored me. This song will forever be in my Heart ❤️

Bless you for stepping up to care for your girls. I'm very sorry about the loss of your wife, it sounds like you loved her very much. I do hope that you found love again.

I loved this song when I first heard it in 1974! 50 years later in 2024, I still love it!

How can one song take you through time, bring back the places, the smells, the voices, the people, fallen and standing, and make you happy and sad at the same time?

@user-cy7ik1xz1e

Es cierto, te da tristeza y felicidad al mismo tiempo.
