Dangerous Man
The Tiger Lillies Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That his desire for revenge we do not fear
:This dangerous man:
Expose him daughter
See that he is bad, bad
Expose him revenge has driven him mad
:This dangerous man:
I fear that young Hamlet
To us is opposed
Ill-will and vengeful glances
At us he does throw
:This dangerous man:
I fear that murder of us
Preys now on his mind
Consumed with malice and contempt
And filled with hatred blind
:This dangerous man:
The Tiger Lillies's song Dangerous Man paints a picture of a vengeful and dangerous man whom the singer fears. The opening lines of the song stress the importance of making it clear that they do not fear the man's desire for revenge. This implies that the singer feels that the man's potentially harmful actions towards them are driven by a desire for vengeance. The repetition of "This dangerous man" throughout the song reinforces the danger that the singer feels they're in.
The second verse of the song appears to be spoken to a daughter or a female figure who is being encouraged to expose the man as bad. The repetition of "Expose him" emphasizes the singer's urgency and confers a sense of immediacy to the situation. They describe the man's mental state as being driven mad by revenge, highlighting the destructive force that obsession with revenge can have on a person's mental health. The third and fourth verses of the song intensify the danger, as the singer expresses their fear that Hamlet is opposed to them and that murder may be preying on Hamlet's mind. The lines "Consumed with malice and contempt / And filled with hatred blind" suggest that the danger is not just physical, but that the man's emotions have become twisted and dangerous, making him unpredictable and threatening.
Overall, The Tiger Lillies's song Dangerous Man is a haunting tale of a dangerous and vengeful man whose actions the singer fears. The repetition of "This dangerous man" throughout the song serves as a warning to listeners to be cautious and aware of the threat that such people pose.
