The Land Of Ice
The Tiger Lillies Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
we pay for every vice
Frozen in the snow
each pleasure it goes
Each lust and desire
frozen every fire
So we await our fate
in this frozen waste
leave us in the snow
Our evil is not spent
we do not repent
So if a saviour comes
our vice will not have run
The ice and the storm
leaves us unreformed
So we await our fate
in the frozen waste
The lyrics of The Tiger Lillies's song The Land Of Ice present an imagery of a cold and desolate land where every vice comes with a heavy price. The line "frozen in the snow, each pleasure it goes" suggests that indulging in any sinful act would only lead to a dead end. The repetition of the phrase "frozen every fire" emphasizes the idea that the coldness of this land extinguishes any passion and desire. The people in this land await their fate as they are trapped in this frozen waste.
However, what is interesting is the fact that they do not repent despite their evil-doings. It seems that they have become numb to their sins and will not change their ways even if a savior comes. The last line of the song "the ice and the storm leaves us unreformed" solidifies this idea. The Land Of Ice is not just a physical place but also a symbolic one where the people are trapped in their immorality.
