Weak
The Tiger Lillies Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With a terrible deceit
In my heart
I had lots of precious plans
To find the flames
And then depart
And all of these words
To hide what within is weak
Your evil has no bounds
So ears to the floor
And hear the sound
And you were born in hell
Craving everything and that as well
And all of these words
They're just a deceit
To hide what within is weak
Is weak, is weak, is weak
In the first verse of "Weak," the singer is walking down the street with a "terrible deceit" in their heart. They have plans to find the flames and depart. The lyrics suggest that there is something dark, possibly even dangerous, within the singer's heart that they are trying to hide. The second verse introduces the idea of evil without bounds, possibly referencing someone or something specific. The singer suggests that they can hear this evil, and that it is all-consuming. The final repetition of "is weak" reinforces the idea that despite any plans or attempts to conceal the darkness within, it ultimately undermines the singer's strength.
One possible interpretation of these lyrics is that they describe the struggle to overcome an addiction, mental illness, or harmful behavior. The "precious plans" to find the flames and depart could represent a longing to self-destruct, while the deceit is the justifications or rationalizations that keep the singer from seeking help or addressing their underlying issues. The idea of being born in hell and craving everything could refer to a feeling of being trapped or controlled by impulses that the singer feels powerless to resist. The repeated assertion that what is within is weak suggests a sense of defeat or resignation.

I was walking down the street
I was strolling in the city
With a terrible deceit
Feeling dreadful and dishonest
In my heart
Deep down in my soul
I had lots of precious plans
I had many important goals
To find the flames
To seek out excitement
And then depart
And then leave everything behind
And all of these words
All of these things I say
Well, they're just a deceit
Are merely lies
To hide what within is weak
To conceal my inner vulnerability
Your evil has no bounds
You are incredibly wicked
So ears to the floor
Listen carefully
And hear the sound
Hear the noise that surrounds you
And you were born in hell
You came from a place of darkness
Craving everything and that as well
Desiring everything possible
And all of these words
All of these things I say
They're just a deceit
They are falsehoods
To hide what within is weak
To hide my inner fragility
Is weak, is weak, is weak
My weakness is evident and constant
