"That's Not My Name" rose to the top of the U.K. charts in May 2008, the same month that the duo's debut album, We Started Nothing, appeared. The Ting Tings spent the rest of 2008 and a large part of 2009 touring in support of the album, which eventually sold over two million copies worldwide, won the 2009 Ivor Novello Award for Best Album, and earned the group a Best New Artist Grammy nomination that December. Early in 2010, De Martino and White moved to Berlin to work on songs for their second album. Inspired by the city's atmosphere and the cold weather, they went in a darker, more electronic direction with their new songs. In August 2010, the Ting Tings offered a taste of their new material, premiering the single "Hands" -- which was mixed by Calvin Harris -- on BBC Radio 1 and officially releasing it that October. After extensive touring and over eight months recording in Germany and Spain, in March 2012 the Ting Tings offered their sophomore album, Sounds from Nowheresville, a collection of songs inspired by the exuberant freedom of the Beastie Boys' classic Paul's Boutique. Two years later, third album Super Critical surfaced. Its October release date was preceded by the April release of first single "Wrong Club."

Well, it's been a long time
People get alone
When it goes off
We should never listen
Not necessary at all
We stand alone
We should be having them
One by one
We should be having them
One by one
They will always come in
It's just a matter of time
We are not fools
They are not kind
Even in these new days
When the damage is done
There's a time and a place
Where you can get strong
We should be having them
One by one
We should be having them
One by one
We should be having them
One by one
We should be having them
Tried tried tried
To make you see
Tried tried tried
To make you believe in me
Tried tried tried
To make you see
Tried tried tried
To believe in me
We should be having them
One by one
We should be having them
One by one
We should be having them
One by one
And it feels so good
And it feels so good
The song "One By One" by The Ting Tings is an upbeat and optimistic tune about not giving up and continuing to push forward in life. The lyrics focus on the idea that though things may be tough and take a long time to come to fruition, it's important to keep going and to not let the negative opinions of others or the hardships of life get us down. The band sings about not listening to those who tell us to be patient and wait, but instead taking action and tackling our problems one by one until they're all solved. Despite the challenges, the band maintains a hopeful outlook, assuring listeners that things will eventually get better.
The Ting Tings use bright and energetic instrumentation throughout the song, with bouncy drums and jangly guitar riffs driving the beat. Lead singer Katie White delivers the lyrics with confidence and conviction, her powerful vocals perfectly matching the empowering message of the song. The chorus is especially memorable, with the repeated refrain "We should be having them/ One by one" encouraging listeners to approach problems head-on and not let them overwhelm us.
Overall, "One By One" is a catchy and inspiring song that encourages perseverance and positivity in the face of adversity. By reminding listeners to take on their problems one step at a time and to never give up, The Ting Tings have crafted a powerful anthem for anyone going through tough times.

They said we needed patience
We were told to be patient
Well, it's been a long time
But it's been too long
People get alone
People start to agree
When it goes off
When the spark ignites
We should never listen
We shouldn't follow blindly
Not necessary at all
It's not required
We stand alone
We're on our own
And though serious
Despite the gravity of the situation
We should be having them
We should be pursuing opportunities
One by one
Individually
They will always come in
Opportunities will always arise
It's just a matter of time
It's only a question of when
We are not fools
We're not naive
They are not kind
Opportunities won't come easily
Even in these new days
Despite the progress we've made
When the damage is done
After some harm has been caused
There's a time and a place
There will be an opening
Where you can get strong
Where you can benefit drastically
Tried tried tried
To make you see
I attempted many times to show you
Tried tried tried
To make you believe in me
I tried my best to gain your trust
We should be having them
We should be actively seeking opportunities
And it feels so good
And it's very satisfying
