Think About Me
The Toms Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Listen little baby one of these days
Your pretty head's gonna turn my way
Honey, oh baby you just wait
One of these nights you're gonna call my name

Oh yeah, one of these days
Girl you better believe, honey wait and see
Yeah, you better believe
You're gonna think about me

Your boyfriend's gotta big red car
Got a compact disc, got a VCR
I can't do no disco dance
But I can sure love you baby if you give me a chance

Oh yeah, one of these days
Girl you better believe, honey wait and see
Yeah, you better believe
You're gonna think about me

I said oh pretty baby, is it something I've said?
Tell me why little baby,
I said why must you play with my head?

Listen little girl I said one of these days
Your pretty head's gonna turn my way
Yeah, one of these days, I know I'm right
You're gonna look for me in the middle of the night

Oh yeah, one of these days
Girl you better believe, honey wait and see

Yeah, you better believe
You're gonna think about me

Overall Meaning

The Toms's song "Think About Me" is a classic example of early power pop, with its jangly guitars and catchy vocal hooks. The lyrics deal with unrequited love, as the singer sings about a girl who doesn't pay attention to him but will one day come to regret it. The opening lines set the scene, with the singer telling the girl that she will eventually notice him: "Listen little baby one of these days / Your pretty head's gonna turn my way / Honey, oh baby you just wait / One of these nights you're gonna call my name". The song then goes on to describe the singer's love for the girl and how he can't dance but he can love her if she lets him.

The chorus then follows, with the singer telling the girl that she will inevitably think about him: "Oh yeah, one of these days / Girl you better believe, honey wait and see / Yeah, you better believe / You're gonna think about me". The second verse then brings in a reference to the girl's current boyfriend and how he has material possessions that the singer can't compete with: "Your boyfriend's gotta big red car / Got a compact disc, got a VCR / I can't do no disco dance / But I can sure love you baby if you give me a chance". The bridge then features the singer questioning the girl as to why she's playing with his head: "I said oh pretty baby, is it something I've said? / Tell me why little baby, / I said why must you play with my head?" The song then ends with the chorus again, with the singer confidently asserting that the girl will eventually be thinking about him.
