Hey Blue
The Tony Rich Project Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Late one night at the cafe
I think I had a Greyhound that night
Lookin' for my lover in the darkness
She said she would meet there
So she says why she was late
Said she couldn't get her hair done
Well you know how that is
Constantly tapping on the table
Givin' me every indication somethin's wrong

Hey Blue I know you well
I can tell by the way you carry yourself
Hey Blue across the room
I can see you when you're with him, I'm with you

She wears her lips dark
That's what I like
But it doesn't make things right not tonight
As she dwells out the out door at the left

I followed her
Oh you don't know what I felt
At that moment that I reached the sidewalk
I see this car there she sits there
And she doesn't even know me anymore
So I confront her with a smile
And a wave away, now Blue you know better

Hey Blue I know you well
I can tell by the way you carry yourself
Hey Blue across the room
I can see you when you're with him, I'm with you

Hey Blue I know you well
Cause when I know you, I know you
And Blue knows
Hey Blue across the room
I'm inside of you, I watch your every move, ooh

I can tell when somethin's on your mind
It sort of shows in your eyes
The way you move your thighs
Hey Blue across the room

You know I know I can see you
When you're with him I'm with you

Overall Meaning

The Tony Rich Project's song "Hey Blue" tells the story of a man who is waiting for his lover at a cafe. She arrives late and offers an excuse about her hair, but the man can sense that something isn't right. He sees her across the room, and while she is with another man, he can see that she is still thinking of him. The man follows her outside and confronts her about her behavior.

The song's lyrics explore the complexity of relationships and the way that people can be connected to each other even when they are physically apart. The singer is able to read his lover's emotions and sense that she is still thinking of him, even though she is with another man. The song's title, "Hey Blue," is a reference to the color of the woman's lips, which is something that the singer finds attractive about her, but also a reminder of the emotional turmoil that he is feeling.

Overall, the song is a powerful expression of the way that human emotions can be complicated and difficult to navigate. The singer is able to sense his lover's feelings and connect with her across a crowded room, but he is also forced to confront the reality of their relationship and the fact that she is with another man. Ultimately, the song is a testament to the power of human connection and the way that even the smallest gestures can have a profound impact.

Love this song. Got this album when it first came out, and every once in a while I put it in my CD player and reflect on what such great music this is. It however makes me sad as there is very little music today that comes close to being as good as this.

@Jodoronnie

@francescadeleon6301

Omg Tony Rich Project! I love the style and soft vocals. The lyrics are deep and on some songs we just have to interpret the words as we apply them to ourselves or others. Either way this is what I call music at the highest level! I can sit and absorb and enjoy!

@MarvinJaye

my dad used to listen to this all the time in the car when I was younger. And I really appreciate that he fed my soul with good music from a young age on
