Sébastien Lefèvre (guitar) started his first band Los Venturas in 1998, inspired by his love for 60s instrumental guitar music. Five years, an EP and a cd later he wanted to explore new musical interests, so he decided to leave the band. In November 2004 he invited Michael Schots and Bart Van Goethem for a try-out. The Tritones were born.
Michael Schots (bass) started his musical career with the rockband Cow Over Moon. Later he was asked to join Los Venturas, where he met Sébastien. For the moment he still plays guitar with Los Venturas.
Bart Van Goethem (drums) is an eternal KISS fan, still follows Metallica and Iron Maiden, but also has lounge, jazz and funk in his CD collection. The Tritones is his first band.
In May 2005 they issued their first demo, the self titled “The Tritones”. Phil Dirt from Reverbcentral.com called it “Atmospheric and moody. A four star demo.” The Studio Brussel Demopoll selected “Chagrin de la mer” and commented:"Beautiful. Music like that is rarely made anymore today."
In June 2006 their long awaited follow-up demo saw the light of day: “Requiem for a Mermaid”. Then, things started happening. Director Koen Mortier selected “Chagrin de la mer” to be used in “Ex-Drummer”, a movie based on the novel by Herman Brusselmans. Ozark Henry asked for “Requiem…” on The Tritones MySpace page. RifRaf, Poppunt Magazine and Musiczine.net applauded the quality and subtlety of the music.
In January 2007 the Studio Brussel Demopoll selected “Vicky’s Butterfly”. “Chagrin…” appeared on the soundtrack cd of “Ex-drummer”, to great critical acclaim of RifRaf and diggs.be. To top it all off, theWAB (the first Belgian e-label) is distributing The Tritones via the iTunes Store.
In March and April 2007 director Maarten De Man (mdm productions) made visuals for a one hour setlist. He projects and mixes them live during the show. Also, Ra Julez made a remarkable contribution in the form of a small animation movie. The Tritones now hope to perform as much as possible with this visual spectacle.
Someone Like You
The Tritones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That you found a girl and you're married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you.
Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I'll remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead"
You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised
In a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I'd hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I'll remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."
Nothing compares
No worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes
They are memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I'll remember you said,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead.
End
The Tritones' new wave track, "Someone Like You" is a heartfelt song about an old flame who has settled down with someone else, leaving the singer hurt but still hoping for a chance to reconnect. The lyrics speak to the universal experience of the bittersweet feeling that comes with seeing an ex-partner move on with their life without you. The opening verse describes the singer hearing about their former lover's newfound happiness and realizing that they were unable to give them what they needed.
The chorus expresses the singer's lingering feelings and desire to find someone who can love them the way their former partner deserved. The lines, "Never mind, I'll find someone like you / I wish nothing but the best for you too / Don't forget me, I beg / I'll remember you said, 'Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead'" show the singer's willingness to let go and move on, but also their fear of being forgotten by their former love.
Overall, the song is a poignant reflection on love and loss, and the enduring hope that even though things may not have worked out with one person, there is still a chance to find happiness and connection with another.
