Happy Happy Birthday Baby
The Tune Weavers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Happy happy birthday baby
Although you're with somebody new
Thought I drop a line to say
That I wish this happy day would find me beside you.

Happy happy birthday baby
Though I can't call you my baby
Seems like years ago we met on a day I can't forget cause that's when we fell in love.

Do you remember
The name we had for each other
I was your pretty you were my baby
How could we say goodbye.

Hope I didn't spoil your birthday

I'm not acting like a lady
So I close this note to you with good luck and wishes to happy happy birthday baby!!!

Overall Meaning

The Tune Weavers's Happy Happy Birthday Baby is a melancholic love song about reminiscing a past romantic relationship on the occasion of the ex-partner's birthday. The singer acknowledges that their former partner has moved on with somebody else, but still wishes to convey their warm regards on their special day. The song opens with the phrase "Happy happy birthday baby, although you're with somebody new," indicating how the singer grapples with their feelings of loneliness and regrets.

The singer then goes on to recall the time they had spent together with their former partner, singing: "Seems like years ago we met on a day I can't forget cause that's when we fell in love." The lyrics rekindle the fond memories of their past relationship, and the singer seeks to establish an emotional connection with their ex-partner. The lyrics cleverly hint at the intimacy the couple shared: "Do you remember the name we had for each other, I was your pretty, you were my baby; how could we say goodbye." The song's bridge ends with a self-deprecating tone that embodies the singer's desire to move on: "Hope I didn't spoil your birthday; I'm not acting like a lady, so I close this note to you with good luck and wishes to happy happy birthday baby!!!"

I was 2 y/o when my mom recorded and sang this classic along with my dad (John Sylvia) Uncle Gil (Ma's brother) and Autie Charlotte. We lived in a big house in Dorchester, Ma. And we (3 brother's) watched mommy and the group rehearse along with other famous groups. I miss that era. My baby sister Nichole came later; I enjoyed traveling w/mommy & the group, and watching them on T.V. and hearing them on the radio. It was natural back then, and today it's facinating to know that, thats my family.

I've always been a sucker for 50's music and this song is a perfect example of why. 50's music will always be tops in my opinion.

I’ve called my daughter every New Year’s Eve at midnight and sing this song to her. Her birthday is January 1st. I’ve done this since she was born and she’s 39 now. Her kids have joined in the tradition and I get a call every midnight on my birthday. The look on my granddaughter’s face the first time she heard “Nana’s song” on the radio was priceless.
