Originated from a surf rock group called the Crossfires, the Turtles delved into many genres such as breezy pop, psychedelic music, and folk rock. A precursor to the bubblegum pop of the late 60s and early 70s as well as a foil to the more self-consciously hip and "serious" acts of the era, the Turtles produced at least a dozen memorable, radio-friendly chart singles. Yet they remain best known for 1967's "Happy Together", which was their only chart-topping single.
The Turtles wound down their career in 1970.
The two prominent singers - Howard Kaylan ("Eddie") and Mark Volman ("Flo" a.k.a. "Phlorescent Leech") - collaborated with Frank Zappa for a short but very intensive period of one and a half years (between 1970-72) and were the cornerstone of what was known to be the Zappa "Vaudeville" band; two of the most famous achievements of that period being the albums Fillmore East – June 1971 and 200 Motels, the soundtrack of the film by the same name.
Think I'll Run Away
The Turtles Lyrics

Each day's like the one before
I think I'll run away
And climb higher than I've climbed before
Life should show me so much more
I think I'll run away
And you can come (and we'll be calm)
Things will be so (much better, run)
Live as we die
High, high on some green hill
We'll be laughing at reality
Glad we ran away
Climb higher than we've climbed before
Life should show us so much more
I think I'll run away
I think I'll run away
I think I'll run away, ooh
The Turtles' "Think I'll Run Away" is a song about feeling unfulfilled and wanting to escape a monotonous daily routine. The first verse establishes this feeling of boredom, with the lyrics "No wonder why I feel so bored, Each day's like the one before." The singer then decides to run away in search of something more, singing "I think I'll run away and climb higher than I've climbed before, Life should show me so much more."
In the chorus, the singer invites somebody to join them in their quest to run away, promising that things will be better and they'll "live as we die." The second verse repeats the singer's desire to climb higher and see more of life. The bridge serves as the climax of the song, with the lyrics "High, high on some green hill, We'll be laughing at reality, Glad we ran away."
Overall, "Think I'll Run Away" is a song about feeling stuck in life and wanting to break free from routine. The singer seeks something more fulfilling and adventurous, and invites somebody to join them in their journey of self-discovery.
