The U.S. Army Airborne Rangers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
if you got to make a fool of someone
babe, do you really got to hurt me
I'm the one that worries
about you
daytime
nighttime
anytime at all
anytime you call
just to be near you
you know
anywhere I'll go
how could you hurt me so
if you got to make a fool of somebody
if you got to make a fool of someone
do you really got to hurt me
I'm the one that worries
about you
Take it easy baby
Please don't hurt me
The lyrics of The U.S. Army Airborne Rangers' song Somebody speaks of being in love with someone who does not reciprocate the same feelings. The lyrics convey the pain and hurt that the singer feels due to being mistreated by their beloved. The opening line that says "if you got to make a fool of somebody if you got to make a fool of someone", reveals the deception and betrayal that the singer experiences in the relationship. The line that follows, "babe, do you really got to hurt me", indicates that the singer is aware of the painful truth that their significant other is being dishonest and disloyal.
The lyrics also reveal how deeply invested the singer is in this relationship. The lines "I'm the one that worries about you, daytime, nighttime, anytime at all", shows how the singer is always there for their partner, willing to drop everything to be by their side. The singer expresses their devotion to their lover, willing to go anywhere their lover goes if they call, and how much being hurt by them has caused them deep emotional distress.
Overall, the song Somebody is an emotional ballad about love, heartbreak, and betrayal. It depicts the struggles that some relationships face, where one person is more devoted than the other, and the pain that comes when that devotion is not reciprocated.

"Bo diddly bo diddly have you heard.
I'm gonna fly that big white bird.
If that chute don't open wide,
I got another one by my side.
If that other one fails me too,
I'll be feelin' mighty blue. (alternative..."I'll sail off in the big old blue)
Tell my momma I did my best.
Bury me in the leaning rest."
