If you plan on pursuing it as a Naval carer, focus on a STEM major to be most competitive and apply early. 12 months out from graduating college while maintaining a 3.2 GPA or higher. Lastly, always challenge yourself to be better

@@tanj1r0kamad0 Good morning, you wont have to make the transition because you will be commissioning as an officer. Every officer attends OCS with the exception of some to train them to be an officer then they commission as an officer.

@@godismysavior6428get good grades in high school and apply for an ROTC scholarship, where you can get your degree while being at ROTC, where you can get selected to be a pilot in your junior year (it’s competitive though), then once you’re done with it you will go straight to flight school rather than OCS

Other commissioning sources include rotc and USNA but the most important part of being selected to attend flight school is the ASTBE. If you cant do well on that selection test you will have a hard time securing a pilot slot. Thanks to this movie along with other factors it is now very competitive to get selected. Once selected you must commission and then make it through NIFE if you make it through NIFE you will begin primary flight training at either NAS corpus christi or NAS whiting feild. Depending on the needs of the navy and your selection score you may or may not have a shot at being a fighter pilot. From what ive been told jet slots are few and highly competitive so to get one you really have to be the best guy in your class or get lucky enough times to be selected for the strike pipeline. If not you could end up flying helos which are also incredibly cool or maritime aircraft such as the P8 also equally cool. If selected for strike you will go to either NAS Meridian or NAS Kingsville to complete both intermediate and advanced strike training if successful there you will next be selected for a specific platform F18s, E/A-18Gs, F35Cs and go to your selected FRS after completion if the FRS you finally get drafted by a fleet squadron andnare officially a fighter pilot. Its not an easy path. But worth it if you can make it through

Makes me wonder if being 27, no college due to money reasons may still be doable if you are ambitious and with a lot of luck on your side or even geeting a waiver or 2 if you show you want it badly

Not true, all Naval Aviators are Naval Officers. All naval officers have some sort of 4 year degree, and commissioned through NROTC, OCS, Naval Academy, or STA-21

+Name’s not important hey, what's up, I would suggest taking as many CLEP exams as you can to knock out as many classes needed for your core classes. Then, reevaluate how many classes you need to obtain your bachelor's degree. After that, enroll in an online school, I would suggest American Military University to obtain your bachelor's. Then put it in your Officer package. Aim for a three or four year timeline.

I not sure if I am reading your first question correctly, can you rephrase it for me? As far as when you graduate from the academy you will report to your first ship for a first tour duty that lasts about 24 months. Here you will typically serve as a division officer.

1. Naval academy is an option. You can receive your commission as a naval officer from mainly 3 sources plus another source STA-21 (this is very rare though because STA-21 is an enlisted to officer thing, so you’d have to go this route, don’t recommend though as you’ll have greater chances with the other three sources: OCS, NROTC, Naval Academy. I went through NROTC which was nice getting to have a college experience too. Got my commission and was selected for navy pilot
2. No it doesn’t matter much, some students have 0 flight experience and they go on to do great things. You would be more “experienced” so flight school may be a bit easier for you
3. Navy pays if you’re at the naval academy, they didn’t pay for mine at nrotc
4. Something aero related like aerodynamics or aerospace
5. No, naval academy is a military college you do receive a degree at USNA. When you graduate naval academy you receive your naval officer commission too

Navy training is not brutal at all in comparison to the other branches. The toughest thing at basic training is adjusting to the different environment, getting used to a early schedule and doing what you are told. Yes, they will yell at you, but it's to get you acclimated to understanding that a sense of urgency is needed for the military and not be as carefree as you once were.

I've been told by my dad about a bunch of stuff, do I need good grades to become a naval aviator, I've tried to look it up but no info came up they just say 4 year bachelors and 13-24 months of flight school so I need to know

Thanks for the question. Out aviation program does not have a GPA requirements, with the ASTB anchoring your package. However, maintaining a good GPA and having a decent major does look good with the package, but not necessary. Hope this helps!

Preferably a STEM major takes precedence. That would be my recommendation. Although, the guidelines don't say you have to get a certain degree. The OAR is the most important part of the process, just keep that in mind. Also, ensure your GPA is decent, I recommend a 3.0 or higher, but it's not required.

@@GarrettH1 Yea, tough it out with the Computer Science, I once had that as a major, but quit because the courses were somewhat boring. You'll definitely be successful in that field. Also, I meant score well on the ASTB, not the OAR.

I personally love navy over Air Force but that’s just the demand of skill i feel like it takes to be navy over air force (landing on a short moving runway type stuff). I wish the things that make we wanna do it now came to me when I was young enough to do it. Now I just cheer on fellow avaiaton enthusiasts wanting to pursue it. Maybe I’m another I’ll take the chance.

33 typically from what I’ve read but I’m assuming it’s a good idea to have your degree and be ready for OCS before 30, I turn 23 next month and I’m starting my bachelors soon for this exact reason

Would have loved to be a navy pilot but odds are I won’t make the age limit 23 getting my degree and my private pilots license at the same time but by the time I finish my 4 year I’ll be around 26. Their is always the air force though, which is my plan B and plan C is just to continue to achieve my ATP certification. For anyone that wants to be a navy pilot don’t wait like me and get your degree asap takes a long time to get through their flight school and training plus officer school. Also don’t go into it for dogfighting or like glory hunting you’ll be very disappointed. I want to do it for a multitude of reasons but the biggest one is simply I’m an aviation nerd and flying the most physic defying aircraft out there and all the hard work and knowledge that you have to put into it is what makes it so desirable. For those who made it this far and have said yes to everything I said I truly hope you make it, furthermore I hope that if all goes according to plan that maybe one day we will get to fly in formation…
