As residents and promoters of the Electric Chair the reputation of the Unabombers has grown hand in hand with the success of the club which the pair started together in 1995.

It was one of Manchester's longest running club nights the Electric Chair & the Unabombers have been accorded cult status in the city for their monthly night of madness and mayhem.

Since then the Unabombers have taken their sound around the country's clubs including The Blue Note, Heavenly Social, The 333, Plastic People, Leeds' Hard Times, Birmingham's Que Club, Manchester's Hacienda, Bugged Out, Cork's Telefunkin, Glasgow's Wax Lyrical, Brighton's Vibes Express as well as the In The City music festival, Homelands and T-In-The-Park.

Central to the sound of this underground Manchester club is the open minded music policy of the Unabombers which has been variously described as "free style" & "northern sulphuric soul".

Their sets are characterised by a flow through genres: hip hop, disco, deep house & beyond; making links between quality music with a rich vein of funk!

In 2001 the Unabombers released their first mix album 'Basement Soul Music' to great acclaim. A collection featuring classic Electric Chair anthems such as Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love', LadyCop's 'To Be Real' and Capoiera Twins' 'Four (4x3)', the reaction was emphatic to say the least, with legions of new clubbers eager to check out the Unabombers live.

The follow up 'Saturday Night Sunday Morning' was released in 2002, and delivered a deeper journey into the true sound of the Unabombers. The evidence for their increasing talents is obvious to anyone who attends the Electric Chair on a regular basis, as the popularity of the residents-only nights proves. For those who can't attend, this album goes a long way towards capturing the vibe - the proof is in the mix!

It's interesting how much MK Ultra affected the years to come in many different places across the country.

Whitey Bulger committed hundreds of crimes after being experimented with. Yes, Bulger had committed crimes before, and would've likely continued to commit them, regardless of any experiment. However, the nature and details of the crimes were most likely impacted by his LSD diet.

I would assume that many of the test subjects were being blasted with dosages far beyond what any sane person would consider to be recreational. No, they were mind breaking sessions for any brain who wasn't sturdy enough.

Ken Kesey liked it so much that he then proceeded to spread psychedelics substances throughout as much of the U.S. as possible.

And the subject of this video, Ted Kaczynski. It is well documented that he suffered from mental health disorders prior to being experimented with. However, would he have spent two decades bombing people across the land had he been left out of any and all government sponsored mind-related experiments? Probably not.

I like this one as well it's a tough call though. I think my personal favorite is Timothy McVeigh. Mainly though I'd say because I've seen so much different material on the Unibomber, and basically nothing on OKC bombing. They both stand out to me because I remember the news stories from when I was young.

Very well done. There could be volumes of work done on TK based alone on his MK Ultra experiences. I always wonder if he could have been productive if spared the psychological torture and drugs. If someone altruistic had taken Ted under their wing instead, he could have been one of the great thinkers of our time. Instead MK Ultra played into his worst fears.

Yours was an excellent documentary. However, one small detail that many videos about the Unabomber overlook is that it was actually Ted's sister-in-law who first recognized his writing style and urged her husband to take a closer look. Only then was his brother convinced that it was Ted's writing. If those who want a truly great read, I suggest "Unabomber" by Robert Graysmith. It is lengthy, well researched and very readable and entertaining. Once I started the book, I couldn't put it down.

I watched the first 17 minutes regarding his upbringing and radicalization during his time at Harvard, as I have a school presentation on him in sociology where I have to analyze why he became a criminal and analyze wether his actions were affected by the environment around him and his nurture, og if it was in his nature and whether he himself had much control over his actions, or if he was completely blinded in his mind. Your video was extremely helpful in understanding his upbringing and you put it all up very nicely.

What was interesting is that he had one idiom he used that is actually the original way to write it but English speakers only used that up until 400 years ago "You can't eat your cake and have it too." which of course became "You can't have your cake and eat it too." Im certainly going to be put on a watchlist for this comment but -- the story of Ted Kaczynski is a really tragedy; having worked in science and technology for two decades now, I came to many of the very same conclusions as he did ( I did not read/ listen to his manifesto until 6 months ago); the tragedy of Ted Kaczynski is that his brilliance was lost - brilliance that could have been put to use making humanity for the better - what Ted did not realize deeply is that technology is a tool and instead of murdering people, he should have shown the world how to use technology as a tool for improving the world rather than using technology to destroy and murder; but it is often very hard for brilliant people to live amongst the profane. When you are on the far right side of the bell curve, you are an outlier which makes it very difficult to function in and relate to a society designed to cater the the center and left of the bell curve.

I worry that his deeper messages are lost in so far as he could have had some pretty profound things for us to examine were it not for his destructive behavior. Some of his mannerisms could have been because he was likely on the spectrum and there is some differences in social communication, often this drives a need for solitude and isolation. it looks like he suffered from burnout during his time at UC Berkeley, which might have catapulted him into his state. One thing I think is worth looking at is his reasoning for the possibility of the rise of a technocratic dystopia. It's not inevitable, but with an understanding of what events might pass to drive that reality, there might be the ability to push in a different direction. It would have been helpful if there were people who he could have related to better and could speak at his level. Sometimes that's a problem when you get to the margins of intelligence.

It could be said that Ted's brother was only doing what was right, as he didn't want to see anyone else be harmed, but man, it sure is sad that it was his very own loving brother who "betrayed" him in the end. That's a pretty heartbreaking aspect of this tale. What is also heartbreaking is that Ted was absolutely correct about so many of the things he observed, and he understood the unfortunate eventual consequences that certain actions would have on all of us. If only he could have expressed his concerns in some more productive way, he may have possibly helped all of us avoid some percentage of grief and societal illness. I won't pretend to know what avenue could have helped convey his concerns in a way that might have mattered, but losing his noteable intelligence to a prison cell was a horrible waste...for all of us( imo ).

He was a young man, in a time that saw our society growing ever more ill, and grand violent gestures seemed to be a clear way to draw attention to a cause. Considering the events he witnessed, in especially the late sixties and even the early seventies, such as the frequent assassinations and the politically motivated violence and bombings, it's understandable how he might have come to reason that his chosen methods were a legitimate way of provoking thought and concern.

Well done documentary. I remember media reporting that investigators believed places with "University" and "Wood" in their names were being targeted. I immediately thought about an apartment complex near where I grew up called University Woods. Uh oh, a double header of a target! Sure enough, the complex soon dropped "Woods" from its name in a bid to be less tempting. Of course the belief that the bomber was fixating on those two words was a false conclusion, but the name change has remained in place all these years.
As for Kaczinski, his bombings were nothing more than petty acts of as thug. He was no revolutionary; he just wrapped his selfish motives up in an ethical facade.

He missed a lot of the good that came from technology. I have seen type 1 diabetics born with the disease live much better lives with insulin pumps and automatic blood sugar testing. My father in law has an amazing device in his chest that regulates his heartbeat and shocks his heart if it stops. Not a critique on you, and quite frankly I'm glad you included it cuz you have to include all angles, but I don't think it was right for SNL and Letterman to make jokes on someone who caused so much devastation and fear to so many people.

To be fair the context of the SNL clip was "Ted attends his Harvard class reunion" which is a parody of his RSVP (well, status update which was posted in the 50th anniversary alumni book) from Supermax prison. But yes gallows humor is more appropriate for those "in the sh*t" compared to folks sitting home on their couches safe and sound.

I red a book about mk ultra and the experiments they did were enough to make anyone mad so the system probably turned ted in to what he became then again it’s not the first time the system turned someone in to a monster

I enjoyed your documentary. As for Ted, I can understand some of his thoughts. He obviously crossed the line several times. He should have put more energy into a different way of getting his grievances heard or dealt with. I feel for his family, his brother had a lot to deal with.

How could you get the date of the publication wrong? I was in college when the WAPO published the manifesto. I graduated from college in ‘96 so the manifesto had to be published before then. And I remember following the trial in law school and I graduated in ‘99.

@@BlackWolf-vs6uo um, yeah. It’s actually a REQUIREMENT at Georgetown (and most first tier law schools). Unlike your high school there are no “do overs.” If you fail a year you are gone.

And a JD is a three year program. In its not me who sets that schedule. ITS THE STATE BARS (all 50 of them plus DC, Supreme Court, Patent bar and federal appeals bar). I think you are oddly including the four years of college required to get into law school in your calculus. And I call that “odd” because you also have to have a high school diploma. So should I have said 19 years?

The fucked up part is Ted was right about it all. I feel like the most intelligent people end up in situations like this. Where they do something extreme to get their point across to get people to pay attention. I truly believe that Ted had good intentions and he truly believed that we were under attack. He felt as though he had to act before it was to late. I don't agree with what Ted did, but I can understand why he did it. This guy was beyond smart and he knew what our politicians and corrupt-ass governments intentions were and are. Looking at the situation now and where we're at today I'm going to have to say he wasn't wrong. I also think that they were completely and utterly out of line putting him in that experiment. I understand that he was smart but he was still a child. They had no business putting him in that, being smart doesn't give you life experiences or reasoning skills. Those come with age, and 17 is nowhere near that age. Most people don't get that until they are in their early thirties. Which is when he started blowing shit up. I feel like we failed him, I feel like we pushed him too hard. I understand that he was very intelligent and we wanted to nurture that. But he was just a child and to put that much pressure on a child is unreasonable. No matter how smart you are your brain is not developed. And for them to put him in an experiment where they break him down. Just to see what happens or how he will act is a highly unethical. I would consider this child abuse, and I think that our government should be held responsible. A lot of bad came from that MK ultra bs. between Ted kaczynski and Charles Manson alone, there should be serious consequences. These two men we're literally tortured and brainwashed into doing the devil's work for the government. Someone most definitely should be held accountable for this fucking shit. It's all disgustingly unfortunate and shocking.
