The band comprises Joe Broughton (Fiddle, Guitar, Mandolin), Paloma Trigás (Fiddle, Vocals), Tom Chapman (Cajón, Percussion, Vocals) and Dan Walsh (Banjo, Guitar, Vocals).
The UFQ are equally at home delivering a sombre air or harmonised Appalachian folk song as they are ripping into a rock-infused reel. They have worked across the world with acts such as The Cheiftains, Bellowhead, The Albion Band and Carlos Nunez, as well as The Violent Femmes, gypsy maniacs The Destroyers, The Mediaeval Baebes, Cerys Matthews and Chris While and more.
Overseas touring has been an integral part of The UFQ's activities since the very beginning. On their first European tour and just their fourth ever gig together they snapped up the top prize at the Spanish International Folk Competition in Plasencia.
Their album The Urban Folk Quartet Live III was released on 21 October 2016. Taken from recordings of concerts in Stafford, Bristol, Maldon and Chester during "The Escape Tour", the album is the band's first live release to feature Dan Walsh and continues their pattern of alternating studio albums with live albums.
