The band's lineup fluctuated significantly over their first nine years, though founding members Steven Ronald "Stevo" Jensen, guitarist Jan Nils Ackermann, and first consistent drummer Joe Escalante remained regular fixtures. Of the original members only Escalante has remained through all incarnations of the band. The current lineup of Escalante, Dave Quackenbush, Warren Fitzgerald, and Josh Freese has remained intact since 1990 and is considered by most fans to be far removed from the band's early 1980s incarnation. Since 2002 Escalante has released all of the band's albums through his Kung Fu Records label, with Fitzgerald generally producing.
Anarchy Burger
The Vandals Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The Vandals' Anarchy Burger is a punk rock song that is full of dark and controversial lyrics. The lyrics depict the punk culture that emerged in the 1970s and 1980s in the United States. The song promotes anarchy and rebellion against the government. The song's opening line, "Anarchy, kill a cat," is an indication of the song's violent nature. The song also references the assassination attempt on James Brady, which occurred in 1981. The lyrics suggest that anarchy is a path to freedom and that individuals should rebel against the government.
The song's chorus "Anarchy Burger, hold the government" is a call to action for punks to embrace anarchy and reject the government. The song encourages punks to express their dissatisfaction with the government by writing to their congressmen, but the purpose is not to improve society, but rather to tell them that their only interest is the money they can make. The lyric "You're all potential anarchy burgers" suggests that anyone can become a punk and move towards anarchy if they want to be truly free. The song's final line is essentially an encouragement to rebel in any way possible, even if it means saying the word "fuck" in front of your mom or going to school naked.
