Good Texan
The Vaughan Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Say things to me like a cowgirl would
I'll do tricks for you like a cowboy should
You look romantic layin' in the hay
I need you tonight in a new kinda way

When you look at me with those eyes
It makes me start to fantasize
Do it to me like I know you could
So I can do it to you baby like a Texan should

Ridin' the range I think of you
I dig your chili you know it's true
Make big money put it in the bank
That longhorn caddy got a great big tank

Do it to me like I know you could
So I can do it to you baby like a Texan should

Well you're the kind-a woman who's above the rest
Well nothing for me but the best
You say you need a fella who really can
Do it to you good like a Texan man

Massive wardrobe of cowboy clothes
Top of my head to the tip of my toes
Ah, you look so good in my hat with fringe on it
So put on my boots, hmm doggone it

Do it to me like I know you could
I do it to you like a Texan should

Ah, do it to me baby like I know you could
So I can do it to you baby like a good Texan should

Overall Meaning

"Good Texan" by The Vaughan Brothers is a flirty song that praises the cowboy lifestyle and its romantic, adventurous, and daring aspects. The singer, who assumes the role of a cowboy, invites his partner, who is depicted as a cowgirl, to indulge in some playful, suggestive, and passionate activities. The lyrics use several Texas-specific references, such as "riding the range," "dig your chili," "longhorn caddy," and "cowboy clothes," to emphasize the Texan identity of the characters and the allure of their lifestyle. The chorus refrain "do it to me like I know you could, so I can do it to you baby like a Texan should" is a playful and confident invitation to a sensual experience that would be true to the Texan tradition of being robust, skillful, and adventurous.

The song's lyrics celebrate the popular image of the American cowboy as a confident, passionate, and free-spirited man who enjoys life to the fullest. The cowboy persona is often associated with qualities such as bravery, chivalry, independence, and a love for nature and animals. The lyrics also evoke the romantic imagery of the Wild West, where cowboys and cowgirls were depicted as picturesque figures living in a vast, untamed world where anything was possible.

Overall, "Good Texan" is an upbeat, playful, and slightly risque song that celebrates the cowboy lifestyle and its romantic, adventurous, and sensual aspects. The lyrics use humor, flattery, and suggestive language to paint a picture of the cowboy culture as a seductive and alluring world that appeals to the senses and the imagination.

Stevie Ray and Jimmy's styles are so different but complimentary, Family Style is a fabulous album

Tom Henderson

I did not see Stevie in that video at all. Not so sure that's Jimmy either.

IanTheScientist

@Tom Henderson wha!! Jimmie was in most the video. Stevie wasn't at all.

Justin MacCarthy

@Tom Henderson Stevie had already died by the time the video was made. Also in the video is Charlie section on drums and Doyle Bramhall Jr on bass...

Rebel DukeTX

@Tom Henderson We lost Stevie just before videos were made for this album. In fact, though a single had been released to radio, the Family Style album wasn't released until a month after Stevie's death. The clips of Stevie in the "Tick Tock" video was just old footage of Stevie, along with interview footage shot while they were recording the album. That's Jimmie in the video. What's cool is in the background...Doyle Bramhall II on bass and Charlie Sexton on drums. Stevie used to babysit them when they were little kids, so he was pretty much an uncle to the both of them. I love the song, but why I like to watch this video from time to time. Stevie was a friend. I remember how busy he was at this time, and how they recorded this record in such a short amount of time, due to Stevie's schedule. But he so loved finally making an album with brother Jimmie.

@Rebel DukeTXwhaaaat you knew Stevie I wish I could ask more about him
